Chapter Text
It was raining not long after he joined the game.
Mob felt grim knowing what was coming. Verity had to die. Rather he had to be destroyed. it had to be destroyed. In the time he's known Verity he's caused problems.
The short lived happiness was.. in fact short lived. Twixxel was.. dead. In game and.. Missing in the real world. Which was confusing.
Why would he go missing? Why would Twixxel go missing and tell no one? The endless missed calls, the fact no one has seen him in days.. It was paranoia.
He had his online and personal life separate. It was just.. strange.
It's not like Verity could come to the real world. He was just a- a mod. That's all it was. Verity couldn't hurt Twixxel in the real world, he couldn't -
"What'cha doing?"
Mob flinched, he hadn't even noticed Verity. In fact he hadn't seen Verity like he thought he would the minute he joined the game. Odd.
"Ah.. Just thinking."
"Hm~ you've been offline for the past few days. You've been busy?"
That's right.. He hasn't been online in the past few days. Not on Minecraft at least. He's just been.. busy. That's the thing.
Busy with real life problems...
"yes, actually... You know I have a life right? I-i mean other than Minecraft."
"I know."
"Well.. you're not mad?"
"Why would I be?"
....
"Nevermind.. So... Verity you uh. You missed me?"
"Yep! You're all~ I thought about. It was that or just.. eh.."
"That or?"
Verity sighed.
"Nothing! Seriously."
Nothing...right. stick to the plan Mob. Verity had to die. Verity was a danger to Minecraft, and maybe it really was paranoia... But the real world as well.
"You know Verity... I uh, I wanna ask you something."
"Ask me Anything! Really. Anything."
"You can't go to the real world right?"
"what do you mean by that?"
"I mean- you can't exist or... Be physically there! In real life right?"
Verity didn't answer, and Mob was beginning to think he could. Which would mean he had to worry Verity could show up one day.
"nope!"
Relief. Pure instant relief Mob felt when he heard that word. So it really was just paranoia. Twixxel probably was.. Busy with personal business. There's no shame in that. It's not like he actually died or... Well went missing.
"That's great to hear, I-i mean! Not that I wouldn't want to see you but I just feel like that'd be so confusing in all honesty."
"So you'd want to see me? I want to see you too. Your real face. The real you..I want to talk with you for hours and hours and hours and hours-"
"We can talk in the game!"
.... "I... Suppose you're right."
It's a good thing he isn't real. If he were Mob would say a thousand miles away from him.
"You-"
"You wouldn't leave me right?"
Ah.. would he? Yes. If he had the chance he would. He wished he never met Verity. He wished he didn't try out this stupid mod. He wished-
"No."
Verity seemed pleased with that answer. Mob decided that was a good sign and grabbed Verity.. it was still so odd to him that Verity was round in a world full of cubes. That alone was a red flag.
A stress ball basically. Could he feel pain if he squished him? Mob did throw him in lava.. accidentally at least!
"Can you feel pain?"
"nope!"
Huh. That... didn't exactly surprise him actually..it was a game, did mods feel pain or have a conscious? They were programmed to act a certain way. But Verity wasn't programmed, verity wasn't code. He was older than Minecraft itself.
A danger, in fact. He did wonder... There were others before him. Did he still feel strongly of them as Verity felt strongly of him?
He didn't wanna pick at old wounds, but curiosity always got the best of him. And it wouldn't matter int the end.
If he was going to be destroyed anyways who cared?
"You ever wonder what happens when you die?"
"Uh.. No. Do you?"
"... All the time. I'm not.. a person. But if I died what would happen? Would I be nothing?"
It felt like Verity was playing tricks on him.. Did he know about the plan? What Mob was about to do? There it was again. The paranoia. It always did get the best of him.
"I couldn't tell you Verity."
"Well, I think I'll be a live for a very long time. With you! My best friend."
"I'm flattered, you know I want to show you something."
"Hm~ alright. Lead the way."
Mob didn't know how to explain it, but Verity was beginning to worry him. Especially now since if his plan went to shit then what would that mean for him?
Verity wouldn't...kill him. There's no way. Verity was understanding IT was understanding.
"You ever wonder what would happen if I left and never came back? I just... Didn't come back to play Minecraft. To come back to this world?"
"I'd follow you."
"what?"
"I said I'd follow you. Everywhere. You can't leave me. Doesn't matter where you go I'll follow."
Right.. That's...not a good answer. That really solidified his plan. This had to work. It had to.
Ah... He supposed he's being a bit ambitious... Doing this alone. But after Twixxel he couldn't bring anyone else in. He couldn't risk any harm to anyone.
Then again... There were others before him. How did they.. they broke free from Verity. They managed to- did they? They all lived he assumed. He couldn't say for sure but that was the possible answer.
"Verity.. I want to show you something alright? I think it's important for you to see and.. I want you to know that...whatever happens.. Just trust me on this."
"Okay!"
Good.. trust. That's one thing Mob had a hold on Verity. Trust..
"Then let's go."
