Work Text:

Rouge was delirious when she first woke up, her head pounded in her skull as she pushed herself off of the uncomfortable fabric beneath her. The bat looked down at herself, noting how she was in a hospital gown of sorts that were designed to fit her wings and tail, odd. She looked around curiously, only to find she was in a medical room? Huh. Rouge slipped off the bedding, and planted her paws onto the ground. Her legs felt wobbly, almost giving out before she leaned back onto the bed. The bats wings fluttered behind her as she caught herself, Rouge grunted and attempted again. This time she was successful, staying steady on the ground despite how her legs felt a little weak. She put her hand on her head, trying to block the light that was making her mind tearing headache significantly worse. Rouge began placing one foot ahead of the other, moving her legs in attempts to walk. The bat didn't get very far before she had stumbled and she had to use her wings to keep her from colliding with the cold floor beneath her. Before the albino could question where, who... she was, the door creaked open. Rouge shielded herself with her wings, going back on the ground and taking a step backwards. The person had a smile on their face, human. The smile wasn't warm, it was cold and chilling to the core, it made the bat uncomfortable.

" Before you freak out, animal, I will not hurt you. "

Rouge's eyes narrowed as she took another step back, her legs hitting the bedding she was on when she had woken up. " Who are you. I don't trust you. "

The human laughed, they laughed at her. Rouge barred her teeth, and they didn't look scared, the person looked amused, taking a cautious step forward, eyes scanning the bat, she shifted uncomfortably beneath it." My name is... hm... You may call me Andrew, I am a scientist for the organization W.L.E. "

The albino looked confused. " Andrew... Okay. What's W.L.E ?? " Rouge murmured, slowly lowering her wings but still very cautious.

" It stands for worldwide lavender experiment! We .. help, those in need. Save them from death, per se. " She stared at the person for a few minutes, confused. " Is that what you did with me? "

The human nodded, smiling." Indeed. " He said calmly, getting closer.

" Then.. Who am I? What was my accident?? What happened to me? " She demanded, wings fluttering once behind her back.

" Your name is Rouge, you are a bat, not to state the obvious. You got shot in the wing and collided on the ground, you are lucky we saved you just in time! " Rouge blinked, guiding her wings in front of her, noting there was a gauze on her left wing, making her eyes narrow.

" Rouge huh? I see... " She murmured quietly, mostly to herself.

" I actually have a proposition for you, a favor because we saved you. " The man added ominously.

" What would that be? "

They smiled cruelly, walking over to her and kneeling in front of her." We want you to work with us, you could be on the front lines, you could be known all over. " Rouge thought about it for a few minutes, eyes darting around the room.

" Maybe.. What do I get in return? " The man rolled his eyes, that smile still plastered on his face unnervingly.

" Freedom, new clothes, protection, enhanced abilities, money, I could go on. "

" Okay. " The mans eyes widened slightly, amused and a little surprised by her quick agreement. " Perfect, lets get you out of here then. "

They stood up, gesturing for her to follow as he began walking out the door, Rouge did in fact follow him. After they walked through many halls, they made it to a room with another human in there, they looked feminine and friendly. Rouge stepped inside curiously. " This is Amara, she will help you make your outfit you'll be wearing for jobs. " Andrew, she just remembered his name. Andrew smiled, then walked out of the room, leaving the albino with the girl he called Amara. " Hello, you. What's your name? " She asked kindly.

" Andrew... said my name is Rouge. " Rouge said plainly, her voice flat.

" Ah! Okayyy, let me look that up really quickly! " Amara smiled, turning around and working her fingers on the white colored keyboard beneath a screen hosting the PC. She hummed quietly, making Rouges ears flick slightly as the tune picked up in them. Amara gasped and grinned excitedly.

" Perfect! We have you right here. Cmere, I want you to look at the outfit you had before your accident, maybe you'd wanna keep it or add some details, hmm? " Rouge walked over, wings folding behind her back as she peered up at the screen.

" Oh... I like that.. But I want to change a few things. "

She said thoughtfully, crossing her arms. After a few hours of planning, sketching and whatnot they had a final plan. Amara even dyed some of her fur a hot pink in some places in the shape of streaks. Rouge noticed how much her fur has fluffed and grown while she was out, she was curious as to how long she was unconscious, though she wouldn't ask. The following days, Rouge had met a few people and grew accustomed to everything quickly. Amara came into the room she had moved into through the week, it was pink and blue, she liked that, Rouge perked up when he door came open, smiling when she saw the woman at the door.

" Hello, Amara. " Rouge said calmly.

" Hi Rouge! I have something for you. " She giggled and shut the door behind her rushing over to Rouge's bed and pulling out a hanger from behind her back." Look! It's the outfit we designed. Oh, and!- " She set the clothes down, peeking out of the room and taking the boots that were there, taking them over to Rouge's bed and setting them down. " These! "

Rouge's eyes widened, pleased with the outcome. " Oh it's lovely.. Thank you so much, Amara. " She smiled, standing up and taking the clothes along with the boots, folding the cloth over her arm." You can go, I'll meet you in your office? "

Rouge offered, and Amara smiled, quickly leaving the room. Rouge put it on, and looked at the long mirror in the corner of her room. She stared at her reflection for awhile, running her now gloved hands through her fur, touching her ears. She looked at the outfit in it's finished result, checking out the boots. She had a smile on her face before she had looked closely at her face, touching her muzzle gently and furrowing her eyes. Rouge met her own gaze in the reflection, her eyes were distant.. She didn't quite feel like herself. She apparently lost her memories from the fall, it kind of bugged her knowing she could have had friends or maybe even family that she just doesn't remember now. She shook her head, and walked over to her vanity, applying eyeshadow and some lipstick.. It made her feel familiar, so she liked doing it. Fashion was familiar to her too, in a way, so she enjoys her time with Amara. Rouge left her room, closing the door gently behind her as she began walking down the halls. The bat eventually made it down to Amara's office, stepping inside and looking for her. She saw the woman leaning over the desk and typing things on her keys.

" Amara, " Rouge called, causing Amara to swiftly spin around in her chair, squealing in excitment.

" Oh my god! You look so badass! " She exclaimed happily, standing up and sitting down on her knees to look at Rouge properly, and the bat allowed her. She did a turn for Amara, causing her to laugh happily. " It looks great on you! The streaks were absolutely a good call, You're smart when it comes to makeup too! "

Rouge beamed at her compliments, it feeding something within her, ego perhaps. " Thank you, Mara. Makeup and fashion seems close to who I was, so.. I like doing it. " She smiled lightly, looking at Amara. The girl grinned, standing up right. " Now that you have your outfit we can get you in business! Let's go to the bosses headquarters! "

Amara urged taking Rouge's hand and rushing out of the room. Rouge laughed and began flying, grabbing Amara's arm and lifting her. She flew her through the halls, and landed right in front of the door with guards. Amara quickly pulled out a card, swiping it and guiding the bat inside the door. It slammed shut behind them after they walked in, causing Rouge's ears to fold back before they popped back up. Amara took her down the dimly lit hallway, into the office area. The boss, unknown to Rouge, smiled and stood up.

" Hello, Rouge. "

The woman, taller than Amara stood in front of Rouge. " My name is Velvet, you may address me as Mrs. Maxwell. "

Rouge tilted her head slightly.

" Hello. " Velvet smiled.

Weeks had past since Rouge had woken up, she liked some of the people here but her favorite was Amara. She eventually was called for her first mission, and it was to go up to the ground and gather the chaos emeralds. She didn't have a due date for this mission, it was her long term one. Velvet mentioned she would have other ones that were smaller, but she wanted Rouge to begin the biggest one first. Rouge accepted quickly, and now she was flying around the forest. She had a curious look as she roamed through the large area. It was night out, and Rouge was accustomed to the dark, She flew out of the forest and discovered a large plain with hills and palm like trees, sand and large bodies of water, some hills curled and twirled, some went up in ramps, it was amazing to her. The bats eyes sparkled as she flew around the area, looking around with curiosity. She paused after about an hour of her exploring and flying around, her ears twitching as she heard something. Before she knew it something came flying at her, it was dark and carried a flash of red. She collided onto the ground after getting roughly kicked down with a loud cough, quickly barring her teeth.

" Euh! The fuck was tha--

Before she could loudly complain, they interrupted, speaking in a low, minorly confused sounding voice. " Rouge? "

The person said, taking a step forward. Now that Rouge could get a proper look, he seemed familiar.. Probably from the photos she was shown earlier. But she recalled the hedgehog being blue.. this one was.. ebony. Rouge looked confused, stepping back and earning him to step closer, and he stopped there, crossing his arms.

" How do you know my name? " Rouge murmured, voice cold. The ebony hedgehog stared at her. eyes slightly widening before they narrowed.

" Now's not the time for games. You were missing for months. " He said firmly, looking irritated.

" Missing? Who even are you, I don't know you. " Rouge argued, putting her hands on her hips. The hedgehog huffed, shaking his head. " Must you be so stubborn? Of course you know me. I'm--... forget it. You know me. "

He said with slight hesitation in his voice, he looked mad, but if Rouge knew any better she would see the concern beneath his burning gaze. " No, I don't. If I did I would've said so, are you calling me a liar? " Rouge huffed, earning a quick retort from the man. " Yes. You lie quite often. Stop playing games with me. "

The two went back and forth for awhile, before the hedgehog growled in frustration and disappeared in a flash. Rouge looked confused at his disappearance. She didn't even get his name but he claimed to know her, how rude! She thought. She rolled her eyes to herself as she lifted off the ground again, fluttering her wings behind her and flying around the hilled area once more.
