Work Text:
Normally baking is Niki's happy place, a reprieve from the stresses of life. So, when Puffy asked to bake with her, she thought what could go wrong?
A lot apparently.
Puffy was certainly not used to the precise nature of baking, being much more accustomed to cooking which was more free, more forgiving. Niki found herself having to hold back frustration at Puffy's naivety. She wasn't really upset at her partner but it was hard to have something that came so natural to her to be so clunky, and confusing to Puffy.
So rather than being on autopilot, Niki had to restrain her desire to micromanage her partner, and it was causing a lot of strife on her stomach.
Which was another issue she didn't want to have to deal with, and yet here she was.
"Niki, you need to try some of this batch of cookies," Puffy exclaimed, shoving some of the freshly-out-of-the-oven cookies in her face. "I think they are getting better each batch." She winks.
Niki has to restain herself from vomiting at the sight and smell of the cookies so close to her face. She had already eaten quite a few of them from previous batches at Puffy's insistance, and Niki had learned a few years back that her stomach was slow to digest leaving a painful ache when she over indulged.
And it only got worse when she was stressed, and playing the perfect partner was a stressful endeavor when you are rebuilding a relationship you had formerly fumbled.
"Thanks, Puffy," Niki says, strained voice, as she reaches for one of the cookies. "I'm sure you're right. You've been really getting the hang of baking." She was not, in fact, getting a hang of baking.
"You think so? Maybe I could help you at the bakery sometime. It would be great to get to spend more time with you," Puffy beams at her, taking a bite of yet another cookie.
Niki grimaces. The thought of her morning bakery ritual being shattered by an intruder, even a handsome and wonderful intruder, makes her physically feel the contents of her stomach trying to force their way up.
"That would be lovely, Puffy," is all she can say.
