Dennis
Dennis heard his alarm go off, he didn't need it he was already up. What was that maybe 2-3 hours of sleep, it was cool today was going to be a great day.Dennis was going to make today a great day, it doesn't matter that he's starting at a new hospital for his R1 a lot of residents do that for totally normal reasons. So what if he would probably be the only omega doctor working there it was cool it was all going to be so cool.
It was really loud in the small apartment this morning. Trinity was doing something in the kitchen that required a blender which is exactly what he need right now at 6:00 am.He need to get up After rolling out of bed putting in his headphones and turning on his getting up mix as loud as his headphones would let him. he was starting to feel human again.
Dennis started putting on his new scrubs before realizing how paper thin they were he took off his top walking over to the dresser in the mirror he caught a glimpse of his soul mark.It made him pause. Closing his eyes, he ran a finger over the mark. He didn’t need to read it; he had those words burned into his mind.
“Woah woah try to keep your feet on the Ground hun” that's all he had to do today was keep his feet on the ground today. He usually hated thinking about his soulmark but when he got to a new level of stress it brought him comfort
Dennis chose not to think of the other embarrassing soul mark on his ass
After putting on his sent blockers he was finished getting ready. he walked out of his room into the small living room/dining room/kitchen.Tinaty was still using the blender
“Trin it’s like 6:00am in the morning, why are you using the blender” Dennis asks dropping his bag down by the small kitchen island sitting at one of the 3 bar stools
“Oh your alive” Trinity yells over the bender she waits for it to be done before she speaks “I asked you like 7 times if you wanted anything”
She was now pouring some type of coffee concoction into a to-go cup. During their time at University Trinity took a part time job as a barista and now it became sort of a hobby to her seeing what drinks she could convince Dennis to try
“Oh sorry, I’m just a bit um tired” shit Dennis would kill for a frappuccino or a latte right now. He got like no sleep last night and any amount of caffeine would have been wonderful. Trinity really did spoil him, between letting him live here rent free and making him the best coffee in the world. He could never go back
“I can see that” Trinity said nodding her head towards the bags under his eyes
“Is it that noticeable” Dennis opened his phone camera but It just went straight to a black screen barely even trying to load the camera
“No its totally not noticeable” She said turning around changing the subject, to what she really wanted to ask “what are you so worried about anyway”
What was he worried about, fucking everything.What if his attending was an absolute nightmare again, what if he’s the only omega, what if he goes in to stress heat, what if so so many things could go wrong today
“I just I don’t know what if what if, it goes so so bad that I have to move hospitals again. It’s one thing to pick a different hospital for residency over the one you intern at but to change it for your residency after a first day is a bad look and if that happens no where will probably hire me. Hell Trinity it was hard enough finding a hospital to take on an omega that Doesn't want to work as a pediatrician an-“Dennis started rambling
“Jesus dude” trin said accidentally slamming the cup down Dennis flinched hard lowering his head out of instinct fighting the urge to bare his neck “shit sorry”
Dennis shook it off, he hated that part of him. The need to please any alpha he was around even though Trinity was a bata, he hated it back home and he hates it here too. Usually it’s not this bad but he was stressed “it’s cool, we should get going we’re going to be late”
“wait” Trin reached over and handed him one of the cups she made “ Dennis.. I um… If anything happens you tell me ok and will deal with it”
He didn’t deserve Trinity she put up with so much for him, he never thought he’d have a best friend like this. One day he find a way to repay her for everything
“Thx Trin” He really wanted to hug her but she did not fuck with physical touch, so that's all he said. They made their way down stairs to the car in silence, taking off towards the hospital. Its cool Whitaker just keep your feet on the ground
Robby
Today was gonna suck there was no way around it; the waiting room was already packed which robby knew was normal but still sucked, Gloria was already looking for him, it was the anniversary of Adamson’s death, and now after only being in the pitt for less than a minute Robby had to run up to the roof to make sure the love of his life his literally soulmate didn't jump to his death. So was not looking to be a great day
Robby opened the door to see Jack’s stethoscope on the railing, shit this was serious.
“Good Morning Rabbit” Robby says gently walking over leaning against the safety railing
“What are you doing here?” Jack ask without any surprise in his voice but with a defeated sadness, Robby Hated that voice he wanted to squeeze it out of jack every time he used it it
“Thought it be better to be here than home with your smelly ass” Robby says with a little laugh
Jack looks at him really looks at him and says “I thought we agreed you would stay home today, we were going to watch that stupid show you love”
“I thought we agreed we won't come up here anymore” Robby says looking back wanting desperately to change the subject
With a sigh Jack says “I wasn't until this 39 year old vet that came hit by a drunk driver in a crosswalk Survived three tours without a scratch. I spent the last two hours coding him.”
“ That's always a rough way to end the night.”
“What if that was him or her or them” Jack says with his eyes being to water
“Oh bunny” robby knew what he was exactly what he was talking about.There mate, there omega the one they've both been waiting their whole lives for. What if they get hit or worse and wind up dead in their ER. Robby couldn't imagine a worst thing that could happen in the ER. Having to work on the person Robby's fantasied about forever would be hell, worse than that having Jack work on their mate by himself
Jack Continued not listening to Robby “ I mean fuck Robby, my mark say “You have to be fucking kidding me” what if they realize im there mate and than they on my operating table and they di-”
Robby stops him by rapping his arms around him
“Hey don't do that, you know the what if game is never fun.”Robby sighs into Abbot's shoulder “And what's the alternative here jack you jump? Then I have to explain to our amazing wonderful alive mate that there was another amazing alpha they were mated to but he jumped because they took too long to meet us. Are you going to do that to them?” Robby knew that was probably a little to mean but he needed this stubborn asshole to get on this side of the rail right now or he would genuinely start freaking. It's not like Robby could blame Abbot, Abbots had to have this type of conversation with Robby probably 100 times but he really didn't need this today
Abbot sighed deciding robby was right and he be damned if he put that guilt and loneliness to someone, he ducked down meeting robby on his side of the railing
“like you would tell them that” Jack says with that stupid smirk that reminded Robby why he loved this stupid stubborn man
“Maybe I would, good thing will never find out” robby says grabbing his rabbit by the shoulders pulling him in for a side hug as they walked to the elevator
As they got into the elevator abbot starts at robby again not forgetting what today means to robby “I really don't think you should work today, you haven't you” abbot pause “you haven't worked september 5 since Adamson’s”
“I just need to work today. I can't just sit at home today thinking of everything" Robby says, he really didn't want to talk about this. He knew Jack was just trying to make sure he was ok but he needed to get to work and not talk about Adamson’s.
Abbot knew there was no way to stop robby once he got an idea stuck in his head, if it was up to abbot robby’s bike would be broken into pieces and buried in the back yard.
Sighing Jack Relenting“Ok if anything happens you want to go home just call me ok”
Robby was starting to get a bit frustrated; he didn't need to be coddled, he need to get to work and get Jack to go home he looked so fucking tired. Robby couldn't remember the last time he saw Jack actually sleep, a week ago maybe. It was hard on days like this when one of them worked the day shift and the other worked the night shift, it was rarer now before they had any seniority they didn't really have a say in their schedule just went where they were needed but since the big Omega rights act passing about 6 years ago there was a big push to keep mates on a similar work schedule. No alpha wants there omage to be out on there own especially at work. But jack still preferred nights and robby liked days so here they were on the fucking roof
He growled a bit before saying“I know jack, listen I promise im fine go home and take a nap, please”
“Ok ok” putting up his hands in defeat “let me at least give you the run down”
Jack then explained as the elevator reached there stop, how the kraken was still here and would need some meds in a few hours robby made a mental not to let dana find him when that was happening,there was a teen girl coming in a few hours to get an mifepristone, a small bowel obstruction waiting on surgery and a letter jack had wrote in case any family should up for the veteran because of course he did he really did love this man
Jack started clocking out on one of the computers at central while robby was about to him say something to him maybe an apology for being an ass or be more of an ass to his mate, when an Omega with a blond braid came up
“Dr. Robinavitch?” the very enthusiastic omega asked
“Thats me” robby said looking up with his glass on the bridge of his nose
She had the biggest smile on her face “Hi Im Melissa King,I will be joining you today. I just came from two months at the VA. I'm so excited to be here”
This was going to be a long day, he may have forgotten that all the med students were starting today also a lot of the new med students were omegas. Since the Omega rights act has been passed a lot more omegas have been going to school for all sorts of things they wouldn't have been able to.Before this most omegas were stuck to being nurses, teachers or assistants and if they wanted to be a doctor they could only work in pediatrics. But since the act has been passed around 6 years ago there finally seeing omega enter the ER
“Hi kid nice to me you, this is Dr.Jack Abbot.” Why did he introduce jack, Robby might have been a little nervous and he couldn't tell why he worked with omegas all time. Mohan was one of his best doctors. She was a bit slower when it came to her patients but she was still a great doctor.
So why the fuck did he feel so anxious right now maybe the Anniversary of addorson death was really getting to him. He started mindlessly itching the soul mark on his arm
Jack realized something “shit”
“What?” robby said snapping out of whatever anxious funk he was in
“I forgot my stethoscope on the railing on the roof” Abbot looked a Robby with the sadist face he could mange
Robby looked at Dana who had silently been watching the whole exchange and sighed “do I have time to run back up to the roof?”
Jack just smiled and said “ aw aren't you just the sweetest, I’ll see you back home”
He walked over to robby kissed him on the check and left before he ever heard Dana's reply
“Your such an ass hole, try to get some sleep huh” robby yelled half heatedly but jack was gone
Dana just laughed “ you should hurry up if you want to get his stethoscope before the rest of the med students and new residents come in”
Robby sighed half walking half sprinting over to the door leading to the roof. In his haste he didn't see the guy coming down the stairs they slammed into each other.Both almost falling but Robby caught the smaller man and bracing them both on the railing. The little guy tried to push off of him but he had spilled some sort of drink on the ground causing him to almost fall again. Robby placed his hands under his shoulders catching him again this time firmly placing him on the only dry part of the ground
“Woah Woah try to keep your feet on the Ground hun” Robby laughed at his own unfunny joke, he was still holding the younger man he really needed to go get back to the pitt he did not have time for this
“I um sorry i umm shit i didn't see you” he was looking down at himself at the spilled drink that had only really gotten on his pants.
Robby was about to let him go when his mark started to itch “what did you just say?”
The man looked like he a deer caught in head lights “umm sorry i, I'm just gonna” just like that he took advantage of Robby’s shock and he was out of Robby’s arms and running down the stairs
Robby was just left standing there what the fuck
