Work Text:
Asked by one of the curious new wingriders, S’dok pulled out his gitar. “Sure, bud, I can play the song about your wing names again, but check out this one first. It’s an ancient Turn’s End ballad, newly rediscovered. There are a couple of words we don’t know yet, but you’ll understand most of it since you know the other one. I sure hope it’s a parody,” he strummed the first chord, finding his starting note.
Ohhhhh……
Grandma got run over by a watch-wher
Walking home from our house Turn’s End eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe
She’d been drinkin’ too much sweetmilk
And we’d begged her not to go
But she’d forgot her herbal poultice
So she staggered out the door into the snow
When we found her Turn’s End mornin’
At the scene of the attack
She had wher prints on her forehead
And incriminatin’ claw marks on her back
Grandma got run over by a watch-wher
Walkin’ home from our house Turn’s End eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe
Now were all so proud of Grandpa
He’s been takin’ this so well
See him in there watchin’ kiddos
Drinkin’ ale and playin’ cards with cousin Belle
It’s not Turn’s End without Grandma
All the family’s dressed in black
And we just can’t help but wonder
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?
Grandma got run over by a watch-wher
Walkin’ home from our house Turn’s End eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe
Now the wherry’s on the table
And the pudding made of pig
And a blue and silver candle
That would just have matched
the hair in Grandma’s wig
I’ve warned all my friends and neighbors
Better watch out for yourselves
They should never bond a watch-wher
To a man who drives a sleigh
and plays with elves
Grandma got run over by a watch-wher
Walkin’ home from our house, Turn’s End eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe!
