Work Text:

Fresh out of the shower, Lois was in a The Mighty Crabjoys black shirt that was three sizes too big; it fell down to her thighs and fit loose like a short nightgown — it was her favorite sleepwear piece but mostly because it smelt just like Clark and his scent was all she needed to decompress after a long day of work.

She was brushing her wet long hair as she looked out the bedroom window in his apartment. Lois smiled at the moon; Superman was floating in front of it, facing the tall building where she was waiting for him.

Always alerted to her surroundings, Lois heard when the front door got unlocked. She knew that Clark always flew through the window after his Superman duties and so she became cautious. Lois held her hair brush tightly over her shoulder and stealthily approached the door, wanting to take a look into the main area — ready to whack the potential intruder with her hair brush if she had to.

Upon hearing Clark’s voice, she put the brush down and let out a sigh as she stepped back. Finding a white dog in the kitchen, she grunted. Lois stayed hidden, away from where it could see her. Familiar with the dog, Lois put a name on the female voice that was talking to Clark out in the living room — The white menace sniffing around the kitchen was Krypto; Clark’s cousin had come over.

Lois closed her eyes and bit on her lower lip as she slowly shut the bedroom door, aiming to avoid for the dog to ever find out she was there and disrupt the conversation that Clark and Kara were having.

A light squeal celebrated victory as she rested against the closed door. Crawling into bed, Lois hugged Clark’s pillow and nuzzled into it before sitting against the headboard. She grabbed the book that she kept on her side of the bed and figured she could read a little while she waited.

Merged in her reading, not even the noise of things being knocked over outside in the kitchen could disturb her. However, the smile that she had as she enjoyed of her mystery novel faded once she heard Clark scolding the dog.

Lois grunted “…Not my chocolate.” The voices outside the bedroom kept demanding for the dog to leave it alone.

As Clark asked Kara to give him a minute, Lois looked up from her book and closed it. Soon after he opened the bedroom door, stepped in, and closed it behind him.

A happy smile greeted him. Lois tilted her head up and poked her lips asking for a kiss. She lightly moaned as this one was granted. Her hands gravitated towards him as she pushed his curls back.

“Hey, you didn’t wait for me.” Clark also brushed his fingers down her still humid hair.

“You want to shower together with your cousin in the house? Kinky.” After they shared a chuckle, Lois found his eyes. Her finger slowly traced the crest on his chest, “I told you she’d eventually find her way back home.”

Clark always worried about her. Maybe he couldn’t relate to the pain and loneliness she felt, but he was the closest person who would ever do. He also knew the importance of unconditional love and acceptance. He took his girlfriend’s hand on his and brought it to his lips.

“She said she’s going to stay for a while this time.”

The way his eyes lit up at that made her smile. “Stay here?” At his nod, Lois offered a side smirk, “Cool.” She then narrowed her eyes, “Where’s the dog staying, though?”

They laughed. Clark crawled into bed and into her arms. “You were right when you pulled my ear the other day; I’m her people. This is my chance to be that for her. Not everything is lost.” He looked up and found her eyes; “…Not when there’s that one person to remind you that you belong.”

Lois was gently brushing her knuckles down his cheek as she held him. Clark had his face against her breasts and was hugging her waist. “Do we still have the lean ground beef we got the other day?” Once he nodded she offered a playful smile, “Didn’t she have a birthday a week or so ago? I have an idea.”

As she tried to get out bed, Clark tighten his grip around her. Lois looked down and tilted her head. “Nng.” He nosed into her cleavage and let out a long breath.

“Babe?” Lois tried to get up once again, without success.

“One moment please.” He muttered against her embrace. “Are you changing?” He wondered as he nosed into her left breast, over the shirt. “Because, I don’t want you to.”

That made her smile, "I mean we have guests." At his whimper, Lois compromised; "I'll put on a pair of pants and leave the shirt on." She could feel him grinning against her boobs. "I need my legs back for that, though."

Clark sat up and pecked her lips. "I need to shower."

"That you do." Lois pressed her lips together at the look he gave her. She then pushed his curls back and ran her knuckles down his cheek, "Are you okay, though?" Her eyes found his.

With a nod, he confirmed that he was. He scratched his jaw, "I wasn't expecting her back." Wigginling his nose he added, "I'm sorry about that. I-I know we were looking forward to some alone time tonight."

"Hey..." Lois cupped his cheeks with her hands and rested her forhead against his, "I think it's great that she's back. We'll figure stuff up as we go...and we still have my place, if we really need that 'alone' time."

Clark faintly smirked and nodded. "Do you mind starting up dinner? I'll be out to help you in a tick."

"Yeah." After one more kiss, Lois stood up from the bed. After putting on a pair of pajama pants, she grabbed a couple of extra pillows and a quilt from the closet.

He followed her out of the bedroom and turned to the right toward the bathroom. They shared a smile and a wave before he closed the door behind him. Lois kept walking, across the main area to the laundry room that Clark had equipped with a bed and closet shelves for his cousin, just in case she ever needed a place to stay.

The door was cracked opened, Lois gently knocked on it and pushed it. Finding Clark's cousin sitting on the edge of the bed with her headphones on, Lois waved. She jumped back once the dog started happily barking at her and nosing into her hand wanting to be pet as he greeted her.

Kara took her headphones off and smiled back. "Hey, Krypto, come here, boy."

The dog didn't listen and kept insisting for Lois to pay some attention to him. He barked and howled as he floated an inch over the floor, following her hand as Lois refused to touch him.

"Krypto!" Kara insisted but her dog kept begging for Lois to pet him as he wagged his tail. "Yeah, I don't think he's going to leave you alone until you say hi." She was afraid this was a lost cause.

Blinking, Lois shifted her eyes from Kara to the dog. Krypto tilted his head to the side and perked an ear. He barked and panted a little. His eyes were on Lois who didn't take her sight away from him as she contemplated this.

"Just a tiny pet and he will be out of your hair." Kara promised, "Imma right, Krypto?"

The dog barked. That was a promise.

Lois wrinkled her nose and slighly gulped. She looked down to her hand and hesitated to reach out. Krypto tilted his head down, floating to her level. Once her hand was extended, facing down, the dog bumpped his head against it, doing all the work as he felt her fingers touching the top of his head.

"There. There." Lois was clearly uncomfortable as she stoically tapped the dog's head. She let out a sigh as the dog kept his word and floated back to the bed where he curled in a ball to take a nap.

"You must be Lois." Kara stood up, "It's nice to finally put a face to the name." She offered a handshake, "I've heard a lot about you."

Upon putting the extra pillows and quilt down on the bed, Lois wrinkled her nose; "Maybe this is just a symptom of me spending too much time with Clark, but..." she blew her cheeks as her eyes fell on the hand that was being offered. Instead of taking it, she opened her arms: "Do you mind if I hug you instead?"

Kara hugged her right away. She smiled over her shoulder, "Yup. You even hug like him. Warm and fuzzy hugs." Pulling back, she suggested, "You should do something about that."

Lois unintentionally flushed as she chuckled. "I should. But..." with a sigh, she lamented, "I'm afraid I don't know how to function without him." Lois blew her cheeks and rolled her eyes, "You are in your own right to judge me all you want."

Kara wrinkled her nose, "Nah. He's a cool dude." She then made a face, "Adopting his music taste though..." She pointed over to what Lois was wearing.

Pulling from the ends of the shirt, Lois looked down on herself. "Oh, no." She looked over her shoulder out of the door and, with a low voice she commented; "The Mighty Crabjoys—" Lois made a face and shook her head.

"—Suck ass."

With a chuckle and a nod, Lois agreed. "Nice to finally meet you, by the way. It's also good to get to put a face to the name. I've heard all about you."

"Pff." Kara made a face and shook her head. "There's no way that nerd spends his time talking about me."

"No, really. You are his favorite person."

"Ha." Now, that she knew was a lie. "Look who's talking."

"Yeah, well." Lois smiled, "I promised him that I will start dinner up which is a fire hazard, but if you need anything...just ask." Lois excused herself to give Kara some privacy. She briefly turned back to face her; "Welcome home, Kara."

After sharing one last smile, Lois walked out of the room. She left the door the way she had found it and walked back to the kitchen where she found Clark was alrady working on cooking the lean ground beef. Lois hugged him from behind and pressed a kiss over his shoulder.

“So what do you think? About Kara.”

Helping with dinner, Lois stood on her toes to reach to the top cupboard and brought a bag of nachos from it. “She’s really sweet and fun. I can’t wait to get to know her better.”

“Isn’t she? I told you she was.” Clark was working with a wooden ladle, making sure the beef cooked evenly as he seasoned it.

“Mm. That you did.” Lois kissed his cheek from behind. “Do you know where we put the stuff from your birthday party?” Clark was beaming as he looked over. Lois brushed her finger down the tip of his nose and added, “I told you that I had an idea.”

Clark couldn’t stop smiling. They exchanged a gleeful chuckle as his arms hugged her waist and he pulled her onto him. Lois closed her eyes as she leaned in and they kissed.

“Passing through! I’ll be quick, just on my way to the bathroom to take a shower.” Kara was feeling around with one hand while she covered her eyes with the other one.

“What are you doing…?” Clark wondered as he briefly followed her with his eyes before bringing his attention back to Lois and pressing a light kiss on her lips.

“Just so you guys know…” Kara kept blindly walking across the apartment, toward the bathroom that was in the back. “I can hear the smacking. It’s disgusting but don’t mind me.”

“And you hear with your eyes?”

Lois stepped back, letting go of Clark’s embrace. She caressed her cheeks; feeling them warm. “We are fully clothed, Kara.” Figuring that she was blushed, Lois hid her face against Clark’s shoulder.

At the confirmation. Kara uncovered her eyes and smiled at them. “Dinner smells great, by the way.” She commented as she walked across the short hallway that led to the bathroom, passing right by them in the kitchen.

“You thought we would be cooking naked?” Clark curved an eyebrow.

With her hands up, Kara turned around, “god knows what that stove and fridge have seen before.” She smirked as she walked into the bathroom, calling out as she closed the door behind her; “No judging, though.”

Now that Kara was gone. Lois released the chuckle that she had been holding but she kept her face hidden in Clark’s shoulder. “She’s not wrong.”

They both knew that if she had come home ten minutes later, it would have been a little awkward.

As Lois looked up, Clark pressed a kiss on her forehead, then her nose, and lastly on her lips.

“I can hear you!” Kara called out from the bathroom.

Lois covered her face and shook her head. As she put her hands down, Lois met Clark’s eyes.

“I’ll go get the stuff you need.” He offered upon pecking her lips again.

“Thank you, baby.”

For Clark’s birthday, Lois had decorated the apartment with some balloons and banners. They didn’t have much left from that time but it was enough to decorate the counter height table. The time was also tight, since they only had the time that would take Kara to shower.

Synchronized and working as a team, they managed to finish dinner and, with the help of his powers, blow enough balloons to make the counter table look festive. Three serves of nachos were on the table. A bowl of Lois’s ice-cream special was also waiting on the counter top with a candle on the top; ready to be lit up any moment now.

They were wearing a birthday hat each, a third one by the ice-cream.

“Here she comes!” A murmur announced as Clark was able to tell by his Super Hearing that the bathroom door had gotten unlocked.

Kara was in the pajamas that Clark had for her. She was wearing her wet hair down. “Is everybody decent…?” She called out in a teasing tone.

With the candle lit up, Clark held the ice-cream bowl. Lois had the extra birthday hat to give to her to wear.

At the lack for a response from them, Kara lamented under her breath; “…Oh that’s not good.”

On her way to her room, she was greeted by balloons which immediately grabbed her curiosity. Her cousin and his girlfriend were also singing Happy Birthday to her; the lyrics had been altered to wish her a delay birthday.

Kara’s face was lit up. She couldn’t stop smiling. Her eyes shifted from Clark to Lois as they counted to twenty-three.

“Don’t forget to make a wish!”

“And don’t tell us what it is or it won’t come true!”

Closing her eyes, with a smile still curved in her lips, Kara quietly thought her wish and blew her candle.

Kara would keep tradition of not telling, but she already knew her one wish had already come true.
