Work Text:
Monster World food was certainly interesting and delicious! You were lucky that they had foods like salads and turkeys (even if they weren’t made out of real meat) in order to sustain you without being unhealthy.
Eating the same foods over and over again is tiring though… and you’ve always been embarrassed to use the kitchen, even though Bridg-It insists it’s fine.
You were very awkward, and Bridg-It really wouldn’t mind if it weren’t for the aforementioned problem.
It had to come up with a plan to get you more comfortable with using the castle’s kitchen.
One day while drinking tea in its room, it considered the fact that you hadn’t gone on a date in a while. It looked down at its teacup and thought of the perfect way to help you!
~~
After you were done writing your notes from today, since the Faerie Island monsters had to make music, it approached you to tell you of its idea.
“So… we haven’t gone on a date in a while. I was thinking we could bake together.”
You looked confused at the suggestion. A date? Baking? What was so romantic about tossing coins at bakeries?
“Uhm… that’s a really quick date.”
Bridg-It then looked at you weirdly, “What do you mean?”
“Well, I don’t know what kind of romance is involved with sitting in front of an oven that we feed coins to.”
Its eyes widened in realization, “No, we’re going to be baking stuff from scratch in the castle’s kitchen, silly.”
“No! We can’t do that. I’m not going down to the kitchen… what if someone sees me?” You said, nervously. You didn’t mind cooking, you just weren’t confident in your own cooking skills. You didn’t want others to see you fail while cooking.
“Almost nobody goes to the kitchen. You’re okay.” It reassured you.
“Man… okay, fine. Let’s go.”
~~
“Okay, so we’re going to be making some cookies, sandwiches, muffins, and tea, so we can have a tea party. How does that sound?” Bridg-It asked, setting down some of the ingredients on a counter.
“Couldn’t we have made the cookies in the bakery?” You asked, still nervous that a monster would come down to the kitchen.
“Oh, don’t be like that! The bakeries only make one flavor. We can have a variety at our tea party.”
You huffed, but knew that it was right. Chocolate chip does get tiring at some point… especially with so many other flavors.
You opened the comically large bag of flour and simply eyeballed the amount as you put some in a bowl. It was big and very heavy, so you ended up dropping it on the edge of the bowl, causing it to fall over.
Flour spilled all over the counter and on your clothes. Bridg-It, who was busy pre-heating the oven, turned around and saw the mess you made.
“We have measuring cups,” it said, opening a drawer and giving you one, while trying to hold back a bit of laughter.
You smiled, taking the cup and adding some flour to the bowl. You moved the bag aside as best as you could without making a bigger mess.
Bridg-It handed you a carton of their egg substitute (which you weren’t going to ask about, because they tasted almost exactly the same as chicken eggs, which you knew from the time it gave you an omelette in bed).
As time progressed, you felt much more secure cooking with Bridg-It, and very soon, you already had three dozen cookies of three different types! Well, not quite. You still had to put them in the oven for them to bake.
Time flew and you were feeling a little tired so you sat on the floor, leaning against the counter with Bridg-It.
“That was fun.” You said, fanning your face a little.
“See? It wasn’t that bad…” Bridg-It said, giving you a pat on the shoulder.
You leaned against it and closed your eyes, sighing and hugging Bridg-It. Damn, you feel quite tired, actually.
You were kind of dozing off when you felt Bridg-It also wrap its arms around you. You didn’t mind the oven, just the fact that you were in your beloved’s arms while dozing off…
~~
When you awoke, you felt Bridg-It leaving. Through blurry eyes, you saw it going to the oven to… put the muffins in? How long were you asleep for?
Didn’t matter, because you stood up and saw everything was already prepared for the tea party!
“Wow… you did this all by yourself?” You asked.
Bridg-It’s shoulders tensed from the shock of you being awake without it expecting it.
“Yeah, I did…” it replied sheepishly, “I didn’t want to be late for the tea party.”
“Late? Who would we be late for?”
Bridg-It shrugged, “Just help me get the stuff outside.”
You took the trays of cookies and muffins, trying not to drop anything as you climbed up the stairs (because of the fact that no one really uses the kitchen, it’s down in the ‘basement’).
Floot Fly opened the door for you, and due to being asleep before, you got quite surprised by the sunlight and almost dropped the snacks.
Luckily, Floot Fly helped you and Bridg-It take the stuff to a little table on the island. The circular table had two stools beside it and a square tablecloth draped on it. The three of you put down the stuff and thanked Floot Fly before it went away to do whatever it does.
You sat down and watched as Bridg-It took the stool in front of you with loving eyes. It was gonna be such a romantic picnic…
You both took a teacup and took a niceee long sip, before reaching across the table and holding each other’s hands.
Bridg-It took your hand and pressed a kiss onto it before putting it down, and eating, with its hand still on yours. :)
