Chapter Text
Okuto never thought he would get this far in life.
He stared at his reflection and lightly slapped his cheeks. Ow. Okay, so this was reality. That's good, right???
It meant he was married to Nakamura Aiki, and his husband was pregnant.
With their child.
Okuto got married to his high school sweetheart, and it wasn't until recently they decided to have children. They actually sat down and had a conversation about Okuto getting Aiki pregnant.
He slapped his cheeks again.
He did the math:
Nakamura Okuto (him) + Nakamura Aiki (the love of his life) = future baby Nakamura who would undoubtedly have Aiki's beautiful brown eyes, chestnut hair, blinding smile—
“Okuto!”
He tripped in his haste to get to his husband.
“Yes, Aiki?!” He skidded to a stop at the kitchen and scanned the room for any threats. The only thing he saw was his husband on his tip-toes trying to reach a jar of nutkao on the top shelf of their cabinet.
“Okuto, where are—oh, there you are!” His husband turned to him with a smile and—
He was wearing one of his shirts, and it was so big on him it looked more like a mini dress, reaching just a little above his knees. The sun decided to seep through their kitchen window and bathed Aiki in a golden glow which was a devastating and wonderful blow to Okuto’s heart. The best part?
His husband was rubbing his round stomach.
He gripped his chest and had to lean against the wall, so he wouldn’t fall.
“I can’t reach the jar,” he pouted and looked back at the shelf. His hair looked so soft. “I was going to use the chair, but…” He glanced at Okuto with the smallest of guilt shining in his doe-like brown eyes.
Okuto knew what his husband was thinking about.
Last week, he came home to his husband standing on a chair and trying to grab a bag of potato chips that managed to be pushed all the way in the back on one of their shelves. Okuto immediately grabbed Aiki by the hips, hoisting him easily off the chair, and quickly but gently placing him on the floor.
“What are you doing?!” he had asked, eyes wide with panic as his heart hammered against his chest. His hands were nearly squeezing Aiki’s shoulders.
“I’m trying to get the chips!” he had defended. His brows furrowed in anger, and he had yelled, “I don’t need to be babied all the time!! I’m not useless only because I’m pregnant, Okuto!”
His husband broke down in tears soon after, and Okuto nearly drowned in his guilt at reacting so impulsively. He knew Aiki liked being independent, and while he was ecstatic about welcoming their child into the world, the pregnancy was a delicate affair. The doctor had warned he had to take it easy otherwise complications could arise.
Aiki still struggled to accept Okuto’s doting, and he had to admit sometimes he was a bit intense, but little by little his husband was coming around, and Okuto had learned when to give Aiki his own space.
Okuto took three steps to reach him, grabbed the jar, and opened it. Wordlessly, he got a spoon, stuck it in the jar, and gave it to his husband, presenting it in a near bow.
“Here you go, Aiki.”
He giggled and grabbed it. He got a spoonful and stuffed it in his mouth. “You’re cute, Okuto,” he said between big bites.
Aiki thought he was cute??
“Thank you!” he said in a loud voice and bowed again.
“Come sit with me on the couch.”
Okuto was right behind him.
Aiki was two months into their pregnancy, so he was still working at the local high school. Okuto constantly worried that the overload of schoolwork would cause his husband to stress, and if he was stressed it might affect his health, and if it affected his health it’d affect the baby, and if that happened—
“Your thoughts are sooo loud!” Aiki pushed him down on the couch and settled on his lap, curling into his chest and cradling the jar against his chest. He ate another spoonful of chocolate spread. “I’m okay,” he whispered.
“I know.” He pulled him closer and kissed the top of his head. He smelled like melon and plum blossoms. “I can’t help it.”
Aiki pressed a butterfly kiss on his neck. “We’re going to be okay.”
Nakamura nodded.
He was happy they were pregnant, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but be nervous. He knew the dangers of pregnancy, and he wouldn’t know what to do if something happened to Aiki and their baby.
“We still need to think of names,” his husband said, effectively popping his negative thought bubble.
“I’ve been jotting down some names.” He ran a hand through his soft wavy hair. “Daiki, Haruka, Airu—”
“I only have—” Aiki tapped his bottom lip. “I think I wrote down Saki?”
“That’s a good name.”
“I only have one! I bet you have ten more.”
“…”
Aiki laughed and kicked his feet. Okuto doesn’t know what he found so funny, but he laughed as well. Once his husband quieted down, he whispered, “You’re going to be an amazing dad.”
Okuto hummed and kissed his cheek. “You’re going to be an amazing papa.”
“Not daddy?” he teased.
Okuto, in a moment of boldness and cheekiness, said, “Between us, wouldn’t I be the daddy?”
“Okuto!” Aiki covered his red face and nearly dropped his jar of chocolate.
He laughed and caressed Aiki’s belly.
Soon they would meet their child, and he couldn’t wait.
