Chapter 1: Him Again

Chapter Text

Bianca and Caroline stood together, Caroline smiling slightly and Bianca smiling vibrantly but sadness hiding ing her eyes. Lacy had gone before both of them and chosen Candor, Bianca seemed to be clearly upset over it, but after barely a minute the sadness evaporated from her eyes. Like it had never been there at all.

“Let’s Go!” Someone in front of all the members that choose to watch the ceremony, the Dauntless-born initiates, and the transfer initiates. Everyone started running, Caroline following as best she could. She was glad to see that she was not the slowest, but she felt bad for the others that were last. Caroline held in a gasp as she noticed that everyone had started to climb up the platform that lead to the train tracks. Caroline struggled to follow them, she had no upper body strength. Not to mention her deep fear of heights. She was the last one to climb her way up onto the platform. Just as she began to catch her breath, everyone else started running and jumping onto the train. Caroline had sprinted to be able to keep up with the kids that seemed to only be jogging to get on the train. When she finally managed to get her hand onto the train she slowly managed to pull herself onto the train, just as the platform gave away. As she looked back she saw that two people were still on the platform, an Erudite and a Candor.

As the doors started to close, Caroline moved away and sat down against the wall with her knees pulled into her chest. She couldn’t help but notice that everyone, even her sister and the other transfers, was talking or sitting with someone else. She couldn’t help but feel weak at that moment, her sister was from the same faction as her but she looked like she was made for Dauntless, with her tall, muscular body, and how her emotions always showed on her face. Whereas you were short, petite, fair skinned, and your emotions always stayed in check.

“Their jumping!?!?” a voice that belonged to someone caroline couldn’t see, shouted. Caroline instantly shot to her feet along with all the other initiates. Each one heading to the door, only to look out and see people (men, women, teenagers), all jumping from the train onto a stone platform. Some landed on their feet, stumbling. Some tucked and rolled, before standing back up laughing. As the platform got closer and closer, Caroline readied herself to jump. Hoping that her jump would go far enough so that she did not end up falling to her death. In her head, she counted down from five before she bent her knees and pushed off the train. She managed to roll once she nearly hit the ground. The gravel poked and provided at her back, once she stood up she started to brush the gravel off of her clothes.

That’s when she noticed him, the man she hadn’t been able to stop thinking about for the last year. Standing on the ledge the sun and his back. She hadn’t thought that she would ever see him again much less the possibility that she would find out his name before she was even through Dauntless initiation. As she moved to join the group of initiates, she wasn’t focused on where she was walking and was more focused on him, she accidentally tripped on a dip in the stone platform they were standing on. She went flying forward, and once she hit the ground she eminently stood up wincing from the burn from the gravel. She pushed the hair that had fallen into her face, behind her ear. She looked around quickly, hoping that no one had seen her fall. But of course, because of her great luck, the man was looking right at her.

Mystery Man’s P.O.V

I stood on the ledge, right above the initiates entrance. As they started jumping onto the platform I counted twelve Dauntless-born, three Erudites, three loudmouths, and two stiffs? I watch the taller one laugh with two of the dauntless borns, the Luraunte twins, I think. I watch as the shorter more delicate one stands up after managing to roll. She stands still for a few seconds before moving to join the group. I watch as she trips over the dip that happens to be right in front of her. I feel the urge to go help her, but I know I shouldn’t so instead I watch as she stands up. When she pushes her light blonde hair out of her face, I nearly fall off onto the net hidden stories below. Her delicate, fair facial features complement her light green eyes. She is gorgeous. I watch as she franticaly looks around, probably to make sure no one saw that she fell. When she notices me looking at her, her pale cheeks flush a bright pink. I feel a small smile creeping onto my face, as she looks away.

Third person P.O.V

“Listen up! My name is Eric! I am one of the leaders of your new faction!” Eric, the man who distracted her, shouts. Smiling as a few of the people jump at the sound of his voice. Caroline can’t help but stare at the man, his voice radiated power. It caused her to accidentally step forward to listen. “Several stories below us is the members’ entrance to our compound. If you can’t muster the will to jump off, you don’t belong here. Our initiates have the privilege of going first.”

“You want us to jump, is there anything below? Like water or something?” Bianca shouts in question. Caroline gasps, how could her own twin sister be so stupid? If was obvious that there was something down there since otherwise, Dauntless would be a dead faction.

“If you are so curious Stiff why don’t you go first?” Eric asked. Caroline tore her gaze away from the beautiful angry boy and looked at her sister.

“And if I don’t?” Bianca sassed right back to him. Not realizing how stupid it clearly was to say something like that.

“Sassing a leader, especially one who helps with initiation is pretty stupid. Especially on your first day. If you don’t jump then you won’t have the opportunity to jump again. You will be factionless before initiation has even officially started,” Eric responded right back, anger filling his voice. It was clear to everyone, including Caroline that Eric was not someone to mess with ever. Bianca slanted forward as if this had been her plan in the first place, stepped up onto the ledge, and stepped off.

Notes:

I apologize for the sheer number of of original characters my 13 year old self was very creative, I will try to explain them the best I can next chapter
