PHOENIX RISING

Summary:

Time Travel AU | Hermione x James | Legacy | Soul Bonds | Found Family | Redemption Arc

When Hermione Granger falls through the Veil during the Second Wizarding War, she awakens decades in the past adopted by the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, now reborn as Hermione Lyra Black, twin to Sirius and heir to a legacy she never asked for.

Thrown into the Marauders Era, she must rewrite the future from inside. Redeem the Black family, stop Voldemort’s rise, and honor the blood of a boy who was never meant to be a martyr, and an ancient marriage contract that binds her.

No beta reader so yeah! My sister is the only other person that's read this so here we are.

Notes:

Chapter Text

Prologue: Through the Veil

Time fractured

Hermione screamed as the world tilted, spinning like shattered glass caught in a storm. One second, she was in the Department of Mysteries, wand raised, shielding Harry from a spell meant to kill. The next, she was weightless, tumbling into the Veil, the swirling stone archway that whispered to the dead.

Pain exploded through her chest. Then darkness.

◇◇◇

When she woke, the sky above her was the deep indigo of a dying twilight, stars winking like old memories. Her breath came in ragged gasps, every nerve alight with residual magic. She was sprawled in a garden manicured, elegant, and eerily familiar.

Two figures loomed over her.

Orion Black’s sharp grey eyes narrowed as he took in her face. “It can’t be.”

Walburga Black knelt beside her, her expression unreadable. “She looks like Sirius,” she murmured. “Too much. No, not just looks. She feels like us. Like a Black.”

Hermione tried to speak, but her voice faltered. Her magic raging, wild seeped from her skin like mist.

“She’s fractured,” Walburga whispered. “We must bind her. Blood to blood.”

Orion didn’t hesitate. A silver dagger gleamed in his hand, a ritual circle etched with starlit runes already drawn into the soil around her. The words of an ancient rite filled the garden air low, rhythmic, binding.

Hermione screamed again as the magic took hold not in pain, but in transformation.

The past was burning itself into her veins.

Her blood boiled, re-written by ancestry. Her memories blurred at the edges still hers, but now fused with something older, something darker, something noble. She wasn't just Hermione Granger anymore.

She was Hermione Lyra Black.

◇◇◇

The next morning, she stood before a mirror in a room lined with velvet and obsidian.

Her reflection stole the breath from her lungs.

Gone was the bushyhaired, bookish girl. In her place stood a woman forged in fire and blood.

Her curls were darker now, obsidian black threaded with a single, silver streak that shimmered under candlelight. Her skin held the faintest golden warmth, her cheekbones sharp and defined, her lips full and softly tinted rose. Her once warm brown eyes had deepened into something richer, a molten amber with bronze and gold flecks, ancient and sharp as obsidian glass.

Power clung to her like a second skin.

She wore a high-collared robe of deep emerald and ink-black velvet, cinched at the waist with a silver clasp bearing the Black family crest, a serpent devouring its own tail, surrounded by stars. The fabric shimmered with wards, ancient protection spells humming beneath the threads.

She was no longer a stranger in this world. She was its reckoning.

And when she walked into the Great Hall of Hogwarts hours later, every conversation died.

She walked into the Great Hall like a secret wrapped in silk and shadows. Every student turned to stare not because she was loud or ostentatious, but because something about her presence made you want to know her. And fear her. Her name was Hermione Lyra Black and by the time they realized she was dangerous, it would be far too late.
