Work Text:
After yet another grueling performance, Blue felt completely exhausted in every sense of the word. He was well aware that dancing was a difficult profession, despite how easy he and many others make it appear in theaters, but the fact he didn’t have a ‘real body’ seemed to make it all the more tiring. Flowers were very delicate and fragile beings, after all. Clearly, that hasn’t and won’t stop him from being the strong dancer that he is.
It had been almost an hour since the audience roared with applause. He could still hear Yellow’s whistling in pure delight and screams for an encore over everyone else… goodness, how he loved that man.
Blue had, of course, cleaned himself up with a nice shower. It was quite refreshing, yet still, he couldn’t help but notice the ache in every fiber of his being. With the lightner’s recent appearance, he has held a performance every night incase they showed up to see. It was… a bit ambitious, he must admit, and perhaps he had been more pressing on his body than he had previously thought.
He deserved a trip to the hot spring.
He made his way through the castle to where the spa resided, politely greeting others as he passed, and gratefully bowing to those occasional few who complimented him on his show. Once he arrived, he changed out of his usual outfit in the locker room nearby into a bathing suit that looked suspiciously like his leotard. He had to have *some* decency, it was still a public space, no matter how empty the spring was currently.
He carefully dipped his toe into the water, shivering at the warmth as he slowly settled until he was soaked up to his shoulders. He could feel the tension in his body practically seeping out of him.
Oh…
Oh goodness…
Why didn’t he come here more often…?
Well, if his memory served him right, last time he was here Aqua and Orange were playing something the lightner’s called ‘Marco Polo’. Every time Orange was the one with her eyes closed, she would just punch and scream until she hit something, and Aqua would cheat since no one could tell if her eyes were open or closed anyways. Blue had tried to settle them down, but of course they wouldn’t. They were still rather young, so it was to be expected that they had so much energy and so little patience for the older ones.
Relaxation was a rare thing to find in this castle, or anywhere, really. Having a moment of peace like this was something quite special. He could only think of one more thing that would certainly make this moment better, yet he does not wish to get up.
However, it was as if the Angel was blessing him today, as his one last desire for the evening was answered.
“Howdy there, Blue!”
His beloved had came to see him.
Often, Blue could hear his darling Yellow coming from a mile away with how much the shiny knickknacks he carried around in his pockets jingled. He must’ve been too calm to have noticed, not that he minded. It was always nice to see the cowboy, even if he wasn’t aware of his presence the moment he entered as he usually did.
He slowly opens his eyes, and shifted faintly so he was now looking over his shoulder, his gaze hazy with sheer contentment and endearment. There stood Yellow with all his southern charm.
“Why, hello, my love,” Blue greeted back fondly, tilting his chin back to peer at the cowboy whose frame was now directly above him.
Yellow’s grin only grew, revealing the slightest gap inbetween his teeth that the ballerino adored so much. He knelt down behind him, his taller frame towering above Blue despite their faces now being mere inches away.
“Golly, pardner, I don’ reckon I’ve ever seen ya so…”
He trails off, gesturing to the sheer relaxation radiating off the flower.
“Serene?”
“Yeah… cozy,” Yellow agreed thoughtfully, leaning as far as his body would allow to press a kiss to his lover’s forehead. Blue leaned into the touch like a flower would the sun, a low hum escaping him as his smile grew ever larger. Yellow was Blue’s sun in every way he could think. He couldn’t live without his darling Yellow… there was a reason he called him the light of his life, after all.
“Would you care to join me, my dear? I’d deeply appreciate your company. It would make my evening all the more enjoyable.”
At this request, Yellow’s face grew impossibly brighter at the thought that not only was his presence wanted by someone as incredible as Blue, he said it’d make his day *better* if he was there. He nodded rapidly, trying to ignore the aching in his cheeks with his much he was smiling, and immediately standing up to join the dancer in the tub.
… he was already knee deep in the water and moving further in by the time Blue stopped him with an expression of pure amusement and confusion. He had begun to laugh, a sound that held no malice or means of humiliation, just an airy fondness that often came with Blue.
Yellow paused, looking back at the dancer with an expression that mimicked his partner’s.
“Whatcha laughin’ ‘bout?”
“O-oh goodness- I don’t mean to laugh, it’s just- Yellow, dear?”
“Yeah?”
“Typically, one does not enter a hot spring in their full attire.”
… Yellow blinked.
“Ain’t that yurs?” He asked. Blue looked down at his one piece, recognizing that with all the frills and sparkles, it did look quite a bit like his usual gown apart from his skirt and laced shoes.
“Ah! No, darling, this is my bathing suit.”
Yellow narrowed his eyes…
“Well, butter my biscuits! It *is* differ’nt! Never doubted ya fer a sec’nd, Blue!”
His laughing had died down now as the slightest ping of guilt hit him. Of course Yellow hadn’t spotted the change, it was barely noticeable, and he hadn’t known how people behave in spas such as this anyways. How could he have just assumed Yellow would know?
“Yes… I’m terribly sorry for laughing,” Blue says before Yellow could get out fully, wishing to unburden himself with the faintest negative feeling before it grew. “I should’ve recognized our miscommunication before I reacted such a way.”
… Yellow blinked once more in surprise, genuinely stunned, before the smile was back.
“Oh, dontchu worry ‘bout it! You ain’t mean nothin’ by it!”
Blue’s mind was cleared of that worry after hearing Yellow’s reassurances, and so, he was back to being carefree and content for the meantime. The lawman hopped out and hurried to the locker room, coming out a few moments later in simple golden swim trunks and his beloved cowboy hat.
On the way back into the water, wading down the steps, Yellow, in all his clumsy glory, slipped. With an exclaimed ‘oh shoot!’, he fell into the hot tub with a splash, causing Blue to cover his face with his arm. Once again, the dancer laughed, a sound that was music to Yellow’s ears.
The cowboy quickly recovered, chuckling and rubbing his neck sheepishly.
“‘m alright! Golly, that was mighty embarrassing.”
“You don’t have to be embarrassed, my love,” Blue said sweetly, although his grin showed he thought it was quite funny despite his words. “It happens to the best of us.”
Yellow grabbed his hat before it could drift away, floating over to where Blue was and lowering himself beside him.
“… howdy,” he greeted softly once more, looking down at the shorter man as if he was falling in love all over again. His lanky arm slid around the ballerino’s shoulders, drawing him as close as they could without a second thought.
Blue giggled.
“Hi,” he greets back, his voice just as soft as he rested his head on Yellow’s bare shoulder. He nuzzled his face into the crook of the cowboy’s neck, pressing his lips against corn colored skin.
Yellow’s face flushed a warm shade of orange as he turned his head and nestled his head into Blue’s hair, returning the kiss to his lover’s temple without a moment of hesitation.
The spa was filled with a comfortable silence, their eyes shut as steam rose from the air around them. It was the most peaceful either of them had felt in a long time. It was… absolutely perfect. Eventually, the silence was broken by Yellow as he began to tell the dancer how his day was. He knew Blue had been cooped up in his room practicing for the whole day, so he felt the need to tell him everything he had missed.
Blue appreciated it solely for the fact he got to listen to the taller one, opening his eyes, and peering up at him with all the love in the world. Yellow eventually met his gaze.
“… I love ya, Blue.”
“And I love you, my Yellow…”
The two flowers remain intertwined. Soon, their duties would be called upon by a member of their family for a game or assistance in some matter, but for now, all that exists are fields of blue and yellow.
