Chapter Text
Severa could not believe this was happening.
Never in her wildest dreams has she ever wondered if a dead man from a 2,000 year old legend could be her father. Hell, it made even less sense the more she thought about it. How could her mother have ever had the time to mess around with a man who was famously loyal to his wife? Nothing lined up! Her hair was BROWN, for Naga's sake. Not the blue every biological royal family member had. She must have been as faint as she felt since her husband Subaki placed his arm on her shoulders to steady her.
"Severa, I know this is an insane amount to process, but it could be the ravings of a mad man. If you let us take your blood for a DNA test--" Robin began before Severa snapped her head up.
"Do we need a test? He's obviously crazy! My hair is as brown as you can get!" Severa insisted, raising her hair up for everyone to see.
Lucina cleared her throat, smoothing her dress out before approaching Severa. "You are correct, however, we have evidence that the Hero-King's father was a brunette. Laurent can explain the concept of recessive genes far clearer than I can--"
"So you're saying I have brown hair because my grandfather's hair was brown?" Severa cut in, digging her hands into her face. "This is such a mess."
"...I don't mean to alarm Severa even more, but why are you working with Laurent?" Owain asked, Morgan shooting him a deadly stare before glancing down at his feet. This seemed to be a loaded question since Lucina turned away from Severa to answer.
"I was curious about something Lady Tiki told me. She theorized that I adopted the mannerisms of the late--er, former, not late--Hero-King. Which is correct, but our research yielded bewildering results..."
Inigo caught on almost instantly, surprising everyone in the room. "Naga, did you two find out if you're his reincarnation?"
Every adult in the room waited with baited breath as Lucina nodded. "It's 99.5 percent accurate. We are almost one in the same."
Severa grabbed Lucina's shoulders, shaking her with unbridled anger. "YOU DID WHAT?!?!?! ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT YOU'RE BIOLOGICALLY MY FATHER?!?!?!?!"
Even Marth himself covered his face with his hands, staring at Tiki in horror. "I may be ill, but did reincarnation retain its meaning?" He shook his head. "Pray, tell me that it changed over the years. If only to spare my child more anguish."
"It retained its original definition, Mar-Mar." Tiki informed him, readjusting his frame in case he collapsed from shock. "Lucina is this generation's version of you."
"But...I'm a man, right? I know everyone thinks I'm a girl..." Marth said, holding his head in his hands as vertigo struck him. "Snake used to tease me about it in Brawl."
Tiki raised her eyebrows, growing pale as a sheet as she straightened Marth's shoulders. Every once in a while, he'd mention something that made absolutely no sense. Mentions of 'Brawl', 'Melee', or even 'Ultimate' sprinkled in from time to time only gnawed at Tiki's nerves. "I believe I will let him rest now. The stress is too much for his delicate condition."
Robin snorted, earning an elbow in ribs from Chrom. "Heh heh, your bloodline is delicate..."
"I said that ONCE to Lissa and you still won't let me forget that!"
"Oh, speaking of Lissa, who should tell her that Hero-King Marth's here?" Robin asked, her fingers on her chin. "I know she has company, but this is just as important to her."
Owain raised his hand to get Robin's attention. "I'll let her know when I return to my room," he offered. "That being said, how long has he been here?"
Cynthia perked up, her eyes sparkling as she grabbed Owain's arm. "Ooh, I found him this afternoon! He arrived shortly after you returned from Noire."
"Nohr, but same difference," he said with a smile. "Where did you find him?"
"In a field west from here! I went to pick flowers for Father and my younger self when I nearly ran over him with my pegasus!" Cynthia's face flushed from shame, but she powered through. "I brought Father to investigate, then he got Lord Chrom, and then Lady Tiki. It was difficult to do anything since he was unconscious in a field for who knows how long. Poor guy woke up and only remembered Severa's name. It took Tiki five hours to catch him up to speed on his own legend, but he seems to remember bits and pieces now."
"What is it with your family and amnesiacs?" Severa sighed, rubbing her arms while Lucina patted her shoulder. "I hope that isn't genetic."
"It shouldn't be, but maybe you can cure your father's. Perhaps you should sit with him for an hour tonight."
Severa huffed until Subaki squeezed her arm. "That may not be a horrible idea. It's not like you have this chance all the time, dear. Spend time with your father."
"But what about you? I don't want you to be sad and lonely because no one wants to spend time with a perfectionist." Severa said.
Subaki raised her chin, cupping her face with his hands before planting a kiss on her lips. "I'll be fine. This is the perfect opportunity to explore Ylissian architecture."
Sighing, Severa was about to leave when she whipped around, her hair smacking Subaki in the face. "Hold on, does my mother know he's here?"
"Not yet. We wanted to give you time to process since we knew it always bothered you," Lucina explained, her cheeks rosy from embarrassment. "Please do not dwell on the reincarnation idea, Severa. I still want us to remain close friends."
Severa rolled her eyes, but did envelope Lucina in a tight embrace. "I...I missed you."
"I missed you too, Severa. We must converse over lunch tomorrow."
Nodding, Severa actually made it out the door in time to see Inigo and Owain hovering outside the door. "What do you two dorks want? Came to gawk at the daughter of a dead legendary king?"
"Does that make you partially undead--" Owain asked before slapping his hand over his mouth. "Naga, that was insensitive. I am so sorry."
"Forget it, I'd rather be a zombie than Lucina's daughter."
Inigo placed his hand on her shoulder, inhaling deeply before speaking. "We're alone, so how do you feel about this? Truly, I mean."
Severa shrugged. "I honestly feel pretty numb. I mean, I bet my dad's going to spoil me and yadda yadda, but this is truly disastrous. How in the world do you ever tell this to someone and expect them to not laugh in your face?"
"Subaki didn't laugh," Owain reminder her.
"Yeah, well, Subaki has no idea who Marth is. Hell, I barely have a clue of who he is. Lucina was always big into his legends, not me. Yet I'm the one in this mess."
Inigo gave her the so-so sign, his smile breaking the tiniest bit. "You grazed over the fact that Lucina's his reincarnation. The only original thing about her is that she has Robin's Fell blood."
"We all have our problems, Severa. Your parentage is yours. However, unlike Mr. "I married my aunt and am having a child with her" over here, you have the chance to turn this around. Seriously consider visiting him tonight."
"Ugh, all right, I'll do it," she groaned, her palms against her eyes. "If only to make everyone stop talking about it."
"Great. Well, keep us posted." Inigo tipped his head in farewell while Owain waved goodbye.
"This is going to be a long existence..." Severe bemoaned.
