"This way!" my father, Dr. Indiana Jones, called out.
We'd been running for a while, possibly a mile or more, trying to escape from the temple's defense mechanisms.
Everything had been going on smoothly until Dad saw a snake slithering down the stairs. One thing led to another: first, he dropped his torch, setting off a chain reaction that sent the temple's halls bursting into flames.
I hate to admit that I screamed when the snake came near me. They weren't my favorite creatures since they triggered sensory discomfort, especially when they slithered across my boots.
Now, following his directions, I dove to the left and covered my head as flames engulfed the hallway we'd just been in. My skin warmed as the flames spread. It was way too warm in here.
"That was a close one," Indy muttered, carefully looking over his shoulder toward the smoldering stone hall. "I nearly got torched by the flames. Stupid snakes. You alright?" He quipped.
"I'm," I winced as I tried to get up. We were not alone. "Um, slight problem."
"What is it? You get burned or something?" He asked, growing concerned. It was nice to know he cared about me, even if he thought I was a wimp half the time. It's not like it's my fault; I get overstimulated easily. Why'd he take me on this project anyway?
"No," I answered, pointing in the other direction, "but I think we have company."
I barely heard my own voice over the ringing in my ears.
Indy looked back to where I was gesturing to, his eyes widening. "Oh, that's not good."
"Is it possible to go back toward the flaming hallway now? Or maybe," I asked half-jokingly.
"Kid, now's not the time," he warned, placing his hand on the rope at his belt.
"I am Akmenrah, pharaoh of Egypt. And I believe that tablet belongs to me." The young man in front of us said.
"What tablet?" I asked innocently. I glanced at my father, who'd apparently grabbed one of the golden treasures before he was scared by the snake. "Oh, c'mon."
"What? It looked interesting." Dr. Jones protested.
"My apologies, but I cannot let you leave with the tablet," Akmenrah stated.
Looks like we were gonna be taking a longer trip than expected.
