Chapter Text
It was already the second week of starting 8th grade. Most students were familiar with which classes they go to each hour, & most teachers were back to drinking coffee every morning. Key word: most.
Kimberley started off the year almost the same as last year. Meeting old friends, getting adjusted to classrooms, & bringing home syllabuses. It may seem normal, however something felt…. missing.
She didn't know what it was. At all.
Could it have to do with not being around close friends for a while? No, usually after a day or two the feeling fades. What about the schedule? Nope! That was already fixed. Relationships? Definitely not. It's not something to be focusing on right now, but it'd be taken into consideration later.
What could it be?...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Surprisingly, the first few hours just went by quickly.
It was already lunch by the time Emily realized the aid told everyone to get to the lunch room. She'd been talking to her friend the entire recess whilst completely forgetting the time. Usually she was bored to the point of almost falling asleep & the clock moving unfairly slow. Strange isn't it?
She made it to the lunch line early and decided to chat with her other good friend, Rebecca.
“Hello!” Emily said as she went right in front of Rebecca to see her face.
“Hey! How's your day going so far?”
“Good!” It was peaceful for a very short amount of time until someone else decided to piss Emily off.
No use for writing the entire argument since it was just the same old useless banter.
Later, Emily & Rebecca sat down at their “designated” seats at the table. For some reason Alexander, another close friend of theirs, beat them to the table today. They all started talking about their days and what they wanted to do after school etc.
Emily from her spot looked at where in the lunch line the rest of their friends were at. She managed to spot only two, although she couldn't see the last one.
She suddenly heard footsteps at her left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Oh hey Kimberley!”
Rebecca saw her put her lunch tray on the table and sit down accordingly. She saw that Kimberley didn't respond so she moved her head closer to examine her face.
“How's your day been so far?” She asked as she carefully observed her expression.
“Been good.” Kimberley responded, not seemingly really thinking much about it.
“That's nice.” Rebecca turned back to eat food, not really knowing that Emily was paying really close attention to Kimberley’s face.
