Shadow sighed with relief,  muscles relaxing that he hadn't even noticed that he’d tensed. Idly he tipped forward, and his forehead came to rest on her collarbone. Amy was warm to the touch compared to the cool summer breeze, and he let her tilt his chin up to meet her gaze.

“We’re out?”

“We’re out,” he confirmed, not quick enough to catch himself as she threw her arms around his shoulders and squealed in delight.

Thankful for the thick quills that cushioned the impact of his skull with the boulder, he found himself laid out on his back with Amy pinning him to the rock face. He’d assumed it’d been an accident, but with the way she was looking down at him but with the spark of mischief in her eyes, he wasn't sure.

Amy crashed her mouth against his, their teeth clicking together for a flash before they found a rhythm. When Amy caught his bottom lip between her teeth, he shivered and pressed in for more. Not wanting the affection to be one sided, he let his hands rest on her thighs but she grabbed them and  pinned them  to the rock as well.

Parting from their kiss with a playful growl, she pressed their foreheads together with a huff. She was clearly about to scold him for trying to tickle her when a cough sounded from a few feet away.

A very familiar cough.

Amy bristled in full and nearly jumped out of Shadow’s lap, releasing the dark hedgehog’s hands and flushing a shade of pink he hadn’t seen on her yet.

“R-Rouge!”

The bat giggled, “Well, I was going to come get you two for dinner but it seems I’ve interrupted something.”

“Yes,” Shadow said, glaring around Amy’s hip at his roommate. “And I suggest you leave before I tell Knuckles about what you said when you were drunk at the Christmas party.”

The bat raised her hands in surrender and walked away.

“What’d she say?” Amy asked, shifting for Shadow to sit up.

He snorted. “I have been sworn to secrecy.”

Amy  pouted and he leaned in to nip at her bottom lip, a soft affection she returned with a kiss, until her stomach rumbled loud enough for them to hear. She squeaked in response, and then it was his turn to part form her kiss

“We should go eat.”

He nodded, but did not move to get up from his spot on the rock, nor let go of her. Instead he  pulled out his phone, and typed something into the search bar. When she made a small, inquisitive noise, he looked up at her.

“The Apotos restaurant downtown is closed, they’re a few hours ahead of us… but Apotos is west of here, so everything should still be open.”

Amy raised an eyebrow “Shadow are you suggesting we ditch our friends to go on a date?”

“Requesting, yes. I’ve seen that campfire far too much to want to be near it.”

“Well,” She hummed, tossing her arms around his neck, “When you phrase it like that…”

Shadow leaned in for another kiss, only to find Amy’s fingertips pressed to his lips.

“But you have to apologize to Silver first.”

He sighed, and let her stand, pulling him up after her and down the beach, towards the roaring bonfire surrounded by their friends; towards the next chapter of their story.
