Chapter Text
Hello everyone, it’s been a while.
In fact, it’s been three years since the last update of Lie for Love. I never thought I would come back to this story. For a long time, I stepped away from the MDZS fandom and stopped writing Wangxian altogether.
But recently I found my way back, and those two idiots have been living in my head rent-free again.
Lie for Love was and still is one of the biggest projectss I’ve ever written, and for a long time I wanted to come back and finish it. When I reread the story, however, I realized there were a lot of inconsistencies and plot points I wasn’t satisfied with anymore. Some parts simply didn’t feel like the story I wanted to tell.
So instead of continuing it as it was, I decided to rewrite the entire fic from scratch.
I asked on Twitter whether I should delete the original work, but many readers (especially those who followed the story closely while it was updating in 2022/2023) encouraged me to keep it up and post the rewrite as a separate work.
So that’s what I’m doing.
With this announcement, the original Lie for Love is now officially complete. I won’t be continuing the original storyline. To be honest, it no longer reflects the story I want to write.
The good news, however, is that the new version keeps all the core elements people loved, just executed better.
If you enjoyed Lie for Love, I’m confident you’ll enjoy Rubber Band Man even more.
For this rewrite I spent a lot more time planning the entire narrative in advance so the timeline and events actually line up. I also did significantly more research on the legal aspects of the story, and most importantly, I deepened the characters and removed several elements that made them feel out of character in the original.
So far, I’ve written two chapters, but the full storyline is already outlined, so finishing it should only take a few months.
If you’ve already read Lie for Love, I recommend starting fresh with the new version. some events, character motivations, and parts of the timeline have changed.
Finally, if you’re still here after all these years, thank you. Truly. It means more to me than you know, and I hope the new version lives up to your expectations.
Fun fact: since writing the original Lie for Love, I’ve graduated from college, moved to China, and have now been living here for almost two years. It’s kind of wild how a show can change the direction of your life like that.
On the bright side, it also means writing modern Wangxian in China is a lot easier now lmao I can literally just go outside and fact-check things.
Thank you again for sticking with this story. I hope you’ll give the new version a chance.
