Chapter 3: Art bonus

Summary:

Soo pretty much this whole time I've had a very very specific image of 'reader' in my head cause they've just been my Scott Pilgrim oc Sunny. I always made sure to keep any non personality details about them out of the written story because I'm very passionate about making reader inserts that ANYONE can insert in (unless a specific set of traits is mentioned at the start of the fic). but since the fic has ended, I thought I might as well show some of my Sunny art + Matthew, Lena and Khin Su illustrations. also btw I haven't had access to my tumblr or insta accounts for a while so if anyone has messaged me on those and not gotten a reply, sorry!

Chapter Text

Sunny Sokolov + Matthew Patel

This is an illustration I did way back when this series was still mean to be a oneshot!

Sunny intro sketch I did around the same time as cupid one! green hair era Sunny would be from a bit after the previous chapter ended haha. drawing that version of Sunny gave me such intense gender envy it got me to finally start binding, though I'd probably draw them a bit different now

not technically fic art but I thought yall would appreciate Matthew art anyway!

Khin Yu and Lena! my darling girls

Uni era Sunny (long hair) and Khin Yu (glasses). I think Khin Yu being a horror movie lover was discussed a bit in the actual fic, but i never got into the fact she's really into the gorey stuff. I Think she'd be a big fan of Higurashi and Corpse Party

Sunny family photo! the handwritings kinda rough but it basically says: "Katya Sokolova, 34, resting bitch face, (undiagnosed autism), Russian Jew" "Min Chit Ko, 36, he's just depressed, Chinese Burmese (Tayoke kabya)" "Sonya 'Sunny' Min Sokolov, 10, RBF + depression (and autism?), having an identity crisis"

one quick, finale, doodle of Matthew and Sunny I did today to send this fic off. thank you everyone so much for reading!

Notes:

THERE WILL BE A CHAPTER 2!! I WILL WIRTE IT EVEN IF IT KILLS ME!!
Final notes
+ Lena "hey you have a habit of self destructing so maybe be careful"
Reader "Ah yes, I am going to self distruct SO HARD"
+ As far as Google tells me 'Namnu' is a Gujarati word meaning something like "cute" or "beautiful, depending on the translation. I think "Pretty" is probably the most accurate one, since Namnu is a gender neutral word that still has somewhat feminine connotations but it's not unusual to use for men
+ Lena is bitchy but she does mean well
+ if you think collage reader was an asshole here please know i actually cut lines where they make very uncalled for comments about Khin You being fobby and that maybe if she smoked she'd be skinnier (niether of these are things reader actually believed, just heat of the moment jabs meant to hurt Khin Yu. i cut them because while their relationship is supposed to be toxic i felt like that was WAY too much and potentially triggering. also, really wouldn't make if reader was fatter then Khin Yu)
+ Khin Yu and Lena's full names are Khin Yu Yu Aung and Yelena Yakovlevna Gershman
+ The pharmacy mention like once in this fic is a real one in Brighton, with a huge sign saying аптека. if you look on the Brighton Beach wikipedia page it's right there. I have some vaseline I bought there lol
+ Pelmeni are a type of Russina dumpling. I'm like 100% sure they also exist in the rest of Eastern European cultures but i'm only familiar with the russian variety and have no clue if they differ at all from the rest
+ As I mentioned before, Brighton Beach is famous for having a huge Russian and Ukrainian population (mostly Jewish people, I'm sure gentiles are also there but honeslty I feel like I've only ever met Jews. and an Armenian). since the 2010s there's also become a huge central asian population. if you're ever in the area I highly reccomend going to Tashkent Supermarket, thought fair warning it's kind overwhelming.
+ Lena pulls a bit from every Russian Jewish women i've ever known, which is a lot, with specific influence from one of my mums friends who is a Russian-French-English translator and is one of the scariest and most judgmental women I have ever met (affectionate?). Lena would have had a very similiar experience to my mum, immigrating to the USA in the late 80s and settlingin Brighton Beach, going to a school where she would have probably stuck with other immigrant kids and would have found it very disconerting how often americans smiled, before eventually losing some of that soviet paranoia and assimilating, eventually attending NYU. unlike my mother Lena is staunchly anti-zionist
+ the house Lena and Reader live in is literally just the house my grandparents used to live in. their kitchen floor was completely warped and bubbling, their walls were this evil spikey scratchy texture that you could scratch your hands on, the bathroom was always freezing, and there was never enough room for all of us when we visited. I miss that house dearly

+ I ALSO HAVE ART ACC! My insta is @a.krowbar and my Tumblr is @confused-krowing
