Chapter Text

It's been two weeks since Hitoshi joined Class 1A; and he has yet to make a single friend. Hitoshi will admit he isn't the most sociable person out there, but the class is easy to get on with, well maybe not that explosive blonde Bakugou, but he doesn't really get on with anyone.

Hitoshi's never really had friends anyway so it's not like he's actually upset about the fact. He's frustrated.

Todoroki talks to him, makes fun of him and makes fun of other people with him, but it's like he has a wall built around himself, to stop himself from actually being friends with Hitoshi.

At first, he thought maybe he saw his counter and decided he didn't want to get caught up in that shit- which is understandable- then realised that Todoroki didn't really have any friends in the class. It's as if he's physically holding himself back from making any kind of relationship with another person. And that’s what frustrated Hitoshi, much more than his own lack of friends.

Because despite how goddamn adamant Todoroki appears to be about not being his friend, he can't even count how many times the boy has accidentally let his cool facade slip around him and hears him laugh at one of his really stupid puns. The kids just as much of a dork as himself!

Hitoshi sighs before continuing to hum Paramore lightly under his breath. Reaching back and tying his hair back out of the way, he makes his way out the Library, finished with his shift, waving a hand over his shoulder at Mrs Midoriya's cheerful goodbye. She's a lovely woman, but Histoshi has to admit the main reason he took the job was the woman's calico cat, Asper. That cat was a literal angel.

Checking his phone- still in a good mood from seeing Asper- Hitoshi groans, good mood now gone. His considerate and loving mother apparently expects him to go buy this week’s groceries, on his day off, with his own money. Gotta love family, right?

Hitoshi runs a hand down his face in exasperation, sending back a quick ok, before pocketing his phone and walking to the nearest supermarket.

He feels his wrist itch, and turns it over to scratch at where his timer is etched on the pale flesh of the inside of his wrist, looks like it went down a few hours, maybe two from what he could tell, stupid things always changing, doesn't it realise how annoying it gets to have his wrist always tingling? He finds it vaguely amusing that the damned thing never seems to actually go up, it's always down when it changes.

Hitoshi isn't particularly bothered by the fact that his imminent death appears to keep getting closer and closer, he doesn't really have much to lose anyway, so why should it bother him?

As he's considering this the resulting wind of a motorcyclist racing past him on a slim black and blue bike with pink accents harshly ruffles his ponytail and his kind-of bangs, which he's forced to fix. He's sees a brief flash of red underneath a gleaming purple helmet, then the drivers gone as quick as he came.

Hitoshi swallows, covering the flush that started to make its way up his neck and face, goddamnit, I am so fucking gay. The motorcyclist stays in his mind the whole way to the shop, and definitely not because that red was the exact same shade as Todoroki's left side. Nope, not at all. Okay... maybe a little cause of that. Hitoshi feels the start of a flush build up at his neck and forces it down. Nope, no pretty boys are going into my mind.

At least he finally reached the store, still slightly red- from what he hopes people will think is exertion- Hitoshi makes his way into the shop to get it over and done with.

He's standing at the fruit stand, contemplating on whether he prefers apples or oranges today, when he feels a tap on his shoulder. He furrows his brows.

"What?" He turns annoyed, which quickly turns to shock. Because holy fuck, why? Standing, now in front of him, is a young woman, who just has to be related to Todoroki. Same face and eye shape, the main difference being the hair style, the young woman has mainly white hair with streaks of red running throughout. She smiles patiently at him, which is about the time Hitoshi realises his mouth is open which he shuts with a snap.

Still smiling she holds out her hand which he cautiously takes after a second consideration.

"You must be Shouto's friend Shinsou, right? My name is Todoroki Fuyumi," She says shaking his hand.

Hitoshi takes a minute to blink away the flabbergasted expression he can only guess is painting his face. Smiling hesitantly at the woman "I guess that would be me, I didn't know he considered us 'friends'," he emphasises with quotation marks smirking slightly with a raised brow.

She lets out a light laugh "He probably doesn’t,” she agrees “but, with the amount he tells me about you, he might as well do,"

"He talks about me?" Hitoshi can't help the curiosity slipping into his voice.

Her smile turns more to sly side “Well, it's more like complaining about you most of the time, which for Shouto is most likely just an excuse to talk about you,"

Hitoshi shrugs grinning "Talking is talking; I'll take what I can get,"

She smiles "I'm glad Shouto has someone like you as his friend, you seem like a good person, Shouto hasn't had many friends growing up due to his circumstances," Her smile darkens reminiscing of the past, with sorrow and hate clear in her eyes.

He stays silent, before encouraging her to continue with a quiet "How come?"

She looks down "Our... -Me and Shouto's that is- Our father, he doesn't have many morals. As children we were all frequently disciplined into following his footsteps and attending law school, then working for him at his cooperation. He believed that our blood would make us succeed in that area. Any of our own dreams were extinguished by force, mostly verbal... sometimes -well for Shouto at least- Physical,"

Hitoshi sucks in a deep breath at that, and grinds his teeth together to stop himself from saying something on pure instinct at the revelation. He had assumed that that was the case but he still wasn't prepared for the reality of the situation.

"But Shouto," her smile grows softer here "He never listened to father, he outright refuses to follow in his footsteps, completely rejecting every part of him. I wish I had that much courage," she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear "But, I've never had much fight in me, especially not against him,"

Hitoshi clears his throat "Is, Is that how he got his scar?"

Fuyumi lets out a small "Oh,"

"No, it's not. Father didn't give him that scar,"

Hitoshi looks up confused "Then how-?"

Fuyumi cuts him off "This is something Shouto should tell you himself, if he ever does; that is," she adds on.

Fuyumi glance sat her watch- an actual watch- "Oh god, I was meant to be home 10 minutes ago! Father is gonna to be pissed! I should really go! Goodbye Shinsou! It was really nice getting to meet you but I really have to go ok bye!" She frets panicked, shaking his hand and leaving all in under a minute.

Hitoshi stands stunned trying to process all that just happened, blinking, shaking his head in disbelief and muttering "Didn't think I'd reach level 35 of friendship so quickly," and carrying on with his grocery shopping.

Hitoshi reaches his house fairly quickly compared to the walk to the shop, then again he got a bit distracted on the walk to.

Hitoshi unloads his shopping into the various cupboards humming quietly. Packing away the last item he slumps to his room yawning, stopping only to pick up Yuu when she twines her way between his legs purring. He grabs his miniature watering can and fills it, watering his collection of scattered house plants around the house. Once that's finished, he flops onto his bed and X's out another day on his 'Doomsday' calendar.

It’s currently the 18th of September, meaning he has 43 days to live. Maybe it's better Hitoshi doesn't make friends like with anyone -not just Todoroki- cause he'll be dead next month anyway so what's the point? If he makes friends it might even make him upset about dying. Now that would be inconvenient.

The door slams and he hears a feminine giggle after a rough whisper. His mother is home, and she has company. Hitoshi dully drags himself from where he slumped down on bed at his mother’s shrill voice ringing through the house "Hitoshi! Darling come here for a moment!" Hitoshi feels his spirits sink lower. She's drunk off her ass.

He makes his way down the hall, to the living room, where his mother is supporting herself on a man who's grinning slyly at her, also obviously drunk off his ass. Hitoshi could tell just from that display this was gonna be a nightmare to deal with.

"Mother," he greets unenthusiastically.

She looks up giggling in delight "'Toshii, dear! I 'hic' I want you to meet your new father! Handsome isn't he?" She slurs drunkenly

"I don't need a new father, especially not one of the men you go whoring around with," he tells her curtly.

She narrows her eyes "hey 'Toshi, don't tell me your still stuck on that old father of yours? He's gone 'Toshi, he 'hic' he left me and he left you, this is why you need to work harder, cause I'll just leave too if you aren't any use to me 'Toshiii," she walked over to him roughly grabbing his chin and directing his face up at her own "You understand right 'Toshiii? You're why your father left. If only you had worked harder, my poor, sweet 'Toshi you just weren't good enough, that's why I had to talk some sense into you darling, you understand what you did wrong don't you? Why you can't have nice things? It's because you don't deserve them 'Toshhii," she coos bitter sweetly at him.

Hitoshi pushes her away roughly, rubbing his chin wincing, where she had gripped it, glaring at her harshly through hurt and betrayed eyes. "Stop it. I know why he really left; I know what you did ok?! He told me, you're the reason he had to leave it's your entire fault, if you weren't such a goddamn slut maybe this family would still exist!" He yells enraged

"You shut your mouth right now, you ungrateful brat, I did what I had to do to survive," she snarls

"You did what you had to? What a fucking joke, what? Dad wasn't enough to satisfy you?"

"I RAISED YOU! I’M THE REASON YOU’RE EVEN ALIVE SO DONT YOU DARE TAKE THAT FUCKING TONE WITH ME!"

"And look how well that turned out,” he spreads his arms “I'm dying and I've still got you as my mother," he snarks acridly.

"YOU THINK I DONT KNOW THAT?! THAT YOU’RE DYING?!YOU THINK I DONT CARE?!" She cries desperately

"That's exactly what I think actually, well, maybe you care that I won't be here to make you money,"

"I'M YOUR MOTHER HITOSHI, IT’S MY JOB TO CA-"

"THEN WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?!" He demands clenching his fists "If you're supposed to care then where the hell have you been every time I needed you?!" He pretends to think "Oh that's right!” he knocks his fist into the palm of his hand “Your friends," he gestures to the man still across the room watching them with his mouth hanging open  "Always need you to satisfy their needs more than I need you to be a good mother to me!"

"I've tried my best with raising you Hitoshi!" She snaps back at him sharply pacing across the room.

"Well maybe your best wasn't enough!" He shouts back at her furiously.

"I was the best fucking mother I could be you fucking waste of space, it's not my fault you can't fucking succeed at anything!" She screeches stopping in her tracks.

"MAYBE IF YOU WERE ACTUALLY A GOOD MOTHER I WOULD WANT TO LOVE YOU!" He roars losing all the composure he had been trying to maintain. Complete shock at the furious hatred filled slap his mother gives him with all her strength across his face.

"Get out," she whispers voice deadly. The tension could be cut with a knife Hitoshi takes a step back from her.

She glares at him with all the acid in the world in her gaze "I said. GET OUT!" She shrieks outraged.

Her partner who had been silent till now snatches a mug off the coffee table and launches it at his head with a grunt of anger where it collides roughly and smashes on his forehead, the searing pain in his head and blood dripping down his face, let him know how serious the injury could be. His last glance at his mother shows her breathing heavily staring at him in horror.

Her voice hoarse and shrill calls after him horrified and scared beyond belief "Hitoshi!" He ignores her ploughing first through the front door then down the street, moving only due to the adrenaline pumping through his veins and the desperation in his heart to get away.

It was late at night by now, he hadn't even realised the time, but his vision was getting blurrier by the second. Wait.

Hitoshi glances at his watch and a deranged smile crosses his face. He doesn't feel completely there but he hears himself sing song "Looks like I didn't even have two months!"

He laughs feeling the tears of frustration begin rolling down his cheeks as he chuckles uncontrollably, until he's suddenly on the ground, on his chest. Oh, my knees gave out.

He glances down his body, he can't move, the blood flow still hasn't stopped either, its near blinding him. Yet, he can't find it in him to stop it.

He goes to rest the side of his head on the ground, just to make this pitiful scene perfect. When, Hitoshi suddenly feels himself being turned over and a sharp intake of breath come from somewhere above him. His head is lifted into what he guesses is someone's lap, and his hair tie is undone as hands run through his hair and apply pressure to his head.

A soft familiar voice calls out but his vision is too blurry and mind too hazy to be able to tell who it is. He only registers the gentle touches and soft voice cradling his head before everything goes completely black.

He regains consciousness briefly in what he guesses is the hospital and vaguely overhears the doctor in his medicated induced state.

"... Lost a lot of blood... not sure if he will make it... not very high chances..."

The first voice obviously the doctors isn't the one that catches his attention.

"... What do you mean...?!... Take some of my blood... I... understand... Thank you..."

It's the second voice that does. It's the same one that saved him and he still can't figure out who it belongs to. He'll figure it out in the morning; he's too tired to think right now, Hitoshi slips back into unconsciousness just like that.

Notes:
