Once there were two entities that were in constant battle. The Gentle Darkness, that created life and the Light of Destruction, which ended life. Both imprisoned in this endless cycle of giving, taking and fighting soon grew tired and descended onto the only planet that still held existence.
However, they could not remain in their original forms and thus had to create new ones. Doing so was like being reincarnated and they were reborn as new people. In a way one could say that those new forms were their children, brought to live to continue their will.
And so they did.
Over the years humankind began to develop and with the belief came the prayers and worship, but also fear and disgust.
These two powerful entities or gods were given many names. Even if their genders were never truly known by mankind. In some region the boy with the power of live, the Gentle Darkness was simply called 'God' while in others he was named Phanes, Coniraya or Katonda.
The girl with the power of death, the Light of Destruction was simultaneously feared as 'Devil' or 'Demon', while in some other regions she was named Thanatos, Walumbe or Hel.
Then there were also those who believed that there was only one god that controlled both, life and death. Those people called them Dionysus or Osiris.
They themselves however simply went with the names Judai, the god of life and Asuka, the goddess of death.

So as I mentioned here are more details on the AU:
Characters:
Judai (God of Life):
Judai has the power of the Gentle Darkness and brings Life. When he actively uses his powers his eyes become golden in color. As such he is often seen in darker clothing (like Black, Red and also Gold). Even if he doesn't look like it he cares greatly about life (to much actually) and thus hates the concept of death (at least at first).
Yubel:
Yubel is like Judai's right hand. They do whatever he wants and protects his. Whenever Judai reincarnates/is reborn they raise him.
Asuka (Goddess of Death):
Asuka has the power of the Light of Destruction and brings death. When she actively uses her powers her eyes become silver in color. As such she is often seen in light clothing (like White, Blue and also Silver). Even if she doesn't look like it she cares little about life (to little actually) and thus hates the concept of life (at least at first).
Fubuki (God of Love, maybe?):
Fubuki is Asuka's brother. Theoretically he is younger than her, but since Asuka reincarnates/is reborn often they say he is the older one. He takes care of her and raises her in those cases.
Other Characters can be included, I just don't know what kind of role they could play. I imagine that Johan and the others could play important roles thou.
Setting:
Since gods are practically immortal and can travel anywhere they want the plot can play in any time period and in any country. They normally life in the mortal realm and can mingle with human kind, pretending they're human themselves. They can also decide if humans can see them or not. Gods can't die by natural means and when they die they are reincarnated/reborn quickly after passing. They normally know what happened in their previous lives, be it through tales/stories by their caretakers or back coming memories.
Plot:
Judai and Asuka hated each other and would constantly fight or argue when they met. Their past fights would often result in the death of one of them. When one of them died it would result in either increase of life (through high birth rate/prospering nature/etc.) or a high death rate (through pandemics/natural disasters/etc.).
While gods remain the same in essence their personalities can wary from cycle to cycle. So I imagine that one of Judai's previous lives (if not his last one) was more like Haou/The Supreme King, killing other gods he deemed unnecessary or gods who stood in his way. It was Asuka's previous live who stopped him resulting in both their deaths. For some years the world was in a standstill, no lives were born but also no lives were lost.
Through the centuries Judai and Asuka would constantly meet each other and while they still fight and argue they avoid killing the other, tired of constantly reincarnating. With the years they would become more aware of the world the the importance about their counterpart. Judai, who cared to much about life learns that it has to end at one point, since overpopulation would make life misery. Asuka, who couldn't care less about life learns to appreciate it, since without life there would literally be nothing. Once she learns to love life she gets depressed from taking it and it is Judai who comforts her ("The one cannot exist without the other"). Through that interaction they become friends and eventual lover.
I imagine that once they are together the story could be kind of slice-of-life-ish/drama-ish, depending on what comes after. Maybe other deities are against the union or for it or have certain expectations, I don't know. The story would best be written as a slow burn I think or multiple one-shots.
Writing those details down was already hard for me... I mean just look at my messily written key points:
Not just do I have terrible hand writing but there are probably a lot of grammar mistakes ^^'
