“No.” Todoroki looks up at Katsuki where he’s leaning against the table, both hands pressed flat. They make extended eye contact, some real standoff energy. But Katsuki’s not giving this up.
They’re going on this road trip if it kills him.
“Can I not go?” Todoroki asks, one side of his mouth quirking up.
“Also no.”
“And you did this…” He knows whatever Todoroki says next is going to be excruciating, simply due to the pause in between words. “For me?”

Or, when things get rough for Todoroki in more ways than one, Katsuki plans the best goddamn road trip of all time to help fix him.

Summary
The two of them are standing next to each other—a captive audience to Midoriya and Kota roughhousing—when Kota hauls off and dick punches Midoriya as hard as he can, really not holding anything back. Midoriya goes down with a choked gasp that has Bakugou chuckling fondly beside him.
When Shouto looks at him, he’s smiling softly. Proud, like Kota just won gold at the science fair or helped a little old lady walk across the street.
“He’s absolutely your kid, huh?” Shouto asks, voice deceptively neutral. “Like a mini version of you.”
Bakugou shoves at his shoulder, rolling his eyes while trying not to laugh. “Shut the fuck up, Half ‘n half.”

Shouto’s been a nanny for the last few years and is well versed in both kids and their high maintenance parents. He’s worried he may have finally met his match in “perpetual problem child” Kota—only to find out they get along perfectly.
His dad might be a problem, though.

'Shouto starts to feel it—the hum in the air, the thrumming in the ground, mixing together inside him. One last person joins the band onstage. Shouto's stomach flips over.
This guy must be the drummer. He's got a riot of blond hair partially covered by a faded grey beanie. Multiple piercings in each ear. Black, low-slung jeans with ragged holes in the knees. Black, sleeveless Van Halen t-shirt, the standard Douchebag Cut, made for the gun show. This can be forgiven. His biceps beg to be put on display. It would be a crime to cover them.
Holy shit, Shouto is glad he came out tonight.
Oh, he thinks. "Is that Bakugou?"
"Yeah," Kirishima says, "that's Bakugou." '

As the son of a huge rockstar, Shouto has grown up determined to escape being signed to his dad's record label. Katsuki pauses, looking properly at his boyfriend. If he was having some kind of life shattering existential crisis, his mouth would be downturned, lopsided towards the left, like his jaw’s being tugged by an invisible string. And his eyes would not be fluttering and drooping, they’d be wide open, unsettlingly so.
“Is it the fucking curry,” He deadpans, “I asked you ten million times if it was too spicy for you and you said no, so if you’re gonna be a little bitch and whine about it then why don’t you just own up to the fact that you have the spice tolerance of a mediaeval english peasant?”
“The curry’s fine,” Shouto replies, “Heavenly. You make being on fire quite enjoyable, one of your many culinary talents.”

“'Kay, I think you’re all set,” he says, this time keeping a healthy distance between them as Shouto sits down again and takes a sip of the water. “Need anything else?”
The word “no” gets stuck in Shouto’s throat. Because there is something—someone—he needs. Wants. But he can’t ask for that, not after the way things ended. So he swallows it down and shakes his head again.
Shouto’s not sure if the hint of disappointment in Katsuki’s eyes is something he imagined. He doesn’t have much time to wonder before Katsuki says goodnight, switches off the light, and turns to leave.
“Wait!”
Shouto and Katsuki finally end up confronting each other after their sudden breakup, hoping for a fresh new start.
