Max didn't remember whose idea it had been originally. Probably his, because Lewis never admitted to wanting anything first, he just waited until Max suggested it and then acted like he'd been thinking the same thing all along. Control freak.
They were in Lewis's Monaco apartment again, which was where they always ended up when they were both in town at the same time. Max had his own place ten minutes away, Kelly was there right now, probably wondering where he was, but he'd stopped bothering to come up with excuses months ago. She knew. She had to know. But as long as he didn't say it out loud, it didn't count.

Max had asked, once, why, and Lewis had looked at him like it was the stupidest question he’d ever heard and said, Jackie Robinson, and that was that. Max had gone home and googled it and felt something warm and stupid settle in his chest that he’d been trying to dislodge ever since.
He punches it in now, listens to the soft click of the lock giving way, and steps inside.

Kimi’s mouth dropped open, and he looked at Max with even more respect and admiration than before, which made Max preen a little. That was how everyone should always look at him, but gloating was beneath him so he schooled his features into a mask of neutrality.
“But maybe if it was me he wouldn’t mind that I was 19.”
Max thinks he should teach Kimi to lower his expectations when it comes to what Lewis is willing to entertain. Things don't go exactly as he expected.
