On the way to Erid, Ryland eventually runs out of rations and has to switch to a full diet of practically flavorless and nutritionless taumoeba.
The human body, when faced with starvation, will typically grow more tired and uncoordinated, requiring wayyy more sleep than before to make up for the lost energy source.Rocky is not a fan of that.

Summary
"I'm up! Ok I'm up-" a yawn broke through his words, Rocky chirping something in anticipation as he skittered over to the closest point in the tunnels to Grace. When the man was done blearily rubbing at his face and slapping himself awake (Rocky was perturbed to say the least when Grace explained some humans harm themselves to wake up or refocus on a task), he finished his statement, "What's up bud, did you need something?"
{"Rocky heard Grace make purr sound like Earth cat. Why Grace not explain that human thing? Why Grace not do it before?"} The blonde took a second to stare at the Eridian with a gobsmacked look on his face before it dawned on him.
"Rocky- do you mean I snore?" The Eridian tilted his carapace slightly, a quirk he'd apparently picked up from Grace.
{"New word. Explain."}

Or a 5+1 in which Rocky conducts several sleep studies on his leaky space blob during moments during their mission.
QUEERPLATONIC GRACE AND ROCKY. Can be read as romantic but I mainly wrote it as two really close bros bonding in space, so there's nothing inherently romantic featured beyond typical snuggles and sappy words :)

Summary
Getting settled on a new planet has all kinds of ups and downs, Ryland Grace knows this. Eridian's are very different, not to mention simply their method of speech.
Grace may have forgotten to mention that some forms of sound, sudden and sharp, are painful to humans. It never came up, and after nearly a year on Erid, it had sort of slipped his mind. Not to mention, being on a space craft for nearly five years must have brought an issue like this to light, but it seems that he and Rocky had just gotten lucky.
The alternative, the pain of new sounds is discovered the hard way, with a bit too much blood as a result.

When Adrian didn't respond they spoke again, "He helped me save the stars."
"It's dying," Adrian told them— softly, gently.
"No," they stomped a foot, even the thought angering them. "He will be okay, he is hungry— makes him weak. That's all."

“Adrian will understand,” Rocky says confidently. “Will be excited to meet alien. Will be excited to meet person who brought me home.”
“Yeah, and I'm excited to meet them too, but after that!” Is this a translation error? A cultural miscommunication? How is Rocky not getting it? “You're partners. They're not going to want some alien around while you're, like… going on dates and all that.”
“Does not mean no time for Grace.” Rocky’s starting to sound frustrated. Part of me feels bad, but the rest is just as frustrated. “Why think this, question? On Earth, just abandon friends when have mate, question?”
It's so clearly a rhetorical question, to which the answer is obviously supposed to be no, of course not. I freeze up anyway.

I focus on Grace for a split moment.

Then I went back towards my xenonite. Nah, full grown adult over there— despite being around 30 Earth years old, and if that were converted to Eridian math— that was very young. Pebbles could barely speak yet at that age. But this was an alien— a human we're talking about. Grown ass man.
Or so Rocky thought.
(5 times Rocky witnesses Grace acting like a pebble, and the 1 time Rocky acts like one himself. Featuring, a reunion between Rocky and Adrien!
