“I promise it will be fun!” Phainon urges, shaking Mydei’s shoulders.
The prince sighs, knowing he can’t say no to him, especially not when he’s looking at him so earnestly.
“Alright then, show me.”

“THIS IS NOT FUN IN THE SLIGHTEST.” Mydei yells at the top of his lungs, voice lost into the rushing wind as they try their best to climb the steep, jagged hill.
OR
As an attempt to distract him from his impending departure… Phainon bothers Mydei for a whole day. It goes about as you’d expect. RIP Phainon’s lower half and Mydei’s remaining sanity, they had a good run.

Summary
“Glad to see you back among the living,” Phainon says through a yawn, clearly having spent the night in the uncomfortable chair in the infirmary by Mydei’s side. Like he often does.
Mydei’s head hurts. Just the regular kind of pain, easily managed by ignoring it until it goes away. But what makes it worse, is the confusion at his predicament. The memories returning to him in death used to vary in time and people who appeared in them. Why is it always Phainon nowadays?
“Fuck you,” Mydei says, hoarsely. He feels like he is losing his mind.
Phainon’s mouth locks mid-yawn and he blinks down at him stupidly, tilting his head with confusion. It’s probably fair, he hasn’t even done anything to earn Mydei’s ire as of late.
or; Human brain lives for a few more minutes after dying, replaying the most cherished memories. Mydei starts seeing Phainon after each of his deaths.

“And I married you,” Mydei answers.
It gets so dramatically silent that another end of the world seems like a good idea.
or: when everything is said and done (people alive, stories finished, promises held), Mydei needs to bring someone else home. The problem is, this someone is incredibly stubborn.

He looks the same as he always does, except for the stark diminishment of his height and the innocent brightness of his eyes. Standing on his tiptoes, he coos over the trinkets his older self keeps in his quarters, his oversized tunic hanging off his frame like a dress. Mydei’s blood runs cold.
The younger Phainon turns to him and, with the voice of a boy more than a decade away from adulthood, points at a figurine: a miniature stone chariot drawn by a pair of swans. “Cyrene would love this! May I take this home?”
Mydei can’t speak.
For a moment, they merely stare at each other. Mydei narrows his eyes, attempting to gauge whether this is an illusion or some kind of Okheman prank. “How old are you?”
Phainon gives him a thousand-watt smile and holds up five fingers. “Seven!”
Phainon turns back to his seven-year-old self. Mydei takes care of him.
