Why? It doesn't have to be mandatory for everyone, I just would like to see it be available as an option. I prefer two-factor authentication whenever and wherever possible for everything, but I wouldn't force someone else into 2FA unless it's for a secure system containing sensitive data. AO3 isn't that.
this is true! i just personally do not like it bc on every site that offers it, you're pretty much forced into it, and i dont want ao3 to take that path
Typically, the only places I see that force 2FA are systems where security is critical (e.g. bank accounts, corporate systems, protected health information, etc. -- AO3 is none of those), or for trusted accounts with advanced permissions that could cause significant damage in the wrong hands (e.g. administrators and/or moderators on a site like AO3 or Wikipedia). But it's always good to have the option to enable it if you want to, even if it's not mandatory.
Exactly - honestly, i'll admit that i dont really stray from not using a private mode on any browser thats avaliable. I just trust my autofill to not mess up and provide me my password to log in. It's actually very easy for me cause it is just autofill and im afraid that if Ao3 asked for authenification every time you logged in id probably slowly fade away from using the site all tgh. Idk. Maybe this is just me. It doesn't make that much of a difference now that im thinking about this now while im typing this though.
