It was after reading Walden that he had felt inspired to accept the post. He wondered if being in the Scottish highlands in order to look after a lighthouse would allow him to live deliberately and see the essential facts of life, and would perhaps learn what it meant to live. Mycroft ends up taking an opportunity as a lighthouse keeper in Scotland to take comfort in the isolation to avoid his past. Greg has been running the local bakery for the last three years after a life in London.
