Summary
“What are you thinking about?” Cas asks him. Dean raises his eyebrows, grabbing his drink from the coffee table. He smiles, “we got two brothers, one soon-to-be ex-angel, and a magical nephilim toddler none of them know how to raise.” He chuckles, “It feels like a twisted version of full house, with a little bit of three men and a baby sprinkled in.” Cas tilts his head in confusion, and Dean waves it off.
“I’ll show you, they’re tv things.”
“Ahh.” Cas nods.
“Team Free Will 3.0” Dean finishes his drink, setting it on the table.

Summary
Dean presses the space key, and in a quick blast of light, he falls back, landing in the snow. What the hell? He is no longer in the dark room, but instead, he sits right in front of Cas, on the other side of the stream. He scrambles up.
“Cas? Cas!” Castiel just sits, unresponsive, with his hands clasped together in front of him.
“You know, I’ve been here a very long time.” Cas begins.
“What? Did they bring you here? Hang on Cas, we’ll get you out.” Dean replies, leaping across the stream to Cas. Cas doesn’t answer. Rather, he sits unmoving, continuing to stare at his hands. Dean realizes Cas cannot see him, or hear him, for that matter. Damn it. Cas speaks, but not to Dean. He’s praying.
“I remember many things...”

Summary
Sam sits back down in his own chair, determined. Stubborn. Dean rolls his eyes. Even as a kid, Sam was stubborn as a mule. Always rammed headfirst into trouble because he was just too upset to let things go. Sam points his finger at the table, as if the wooden furniture were to blame for everything. “We’re gonna deal with this.”
“Deal with what, exactly, Sam?” Dean asks.
“You don’t think you deserve to be happy.” Sam states. “Why?”
“No.” Dean says.
“No? No what, Dean?”
“No, Sam. We can talk, okay? We talk all the time. But you know that there’s a line. There’s a line that we never cross. Things we never talk about.” Dean replies, drawing an invisible line on the table with his finger.

Summary
Dean notices Cas staring curiously at something on the shelf. He picks it up, examining it. Figuring out its purpose.
“Those are sippy cups.” Dean says, approaching him with the cart. Cas unscrews the lid from the purple container, inspecting it further.
“Yes. very practical. Why haven't I seen more of these?”
“Well, Cas, most adult people don’t use sippy cups.” Dean explains, amused.
“Why not?” Cas inquires.
“Well, because-” when Dean can’t find a good reason, he shrugs. “Ah, what the hell? We should probably grab a few, what do you think?” He jokes, referring to the incident with the thermos earlier that day. Cas chuckles.
“I dunno, Dean, are you sure that would be a wise investment?” Dean smiles as he tosses a few into the cart. He likes teasing Cas, but when Cas understands Dean, and teases him back, it feels like something else.

Summary
“Really? They… symbolize things?” Dean asks, almost impressed that Cas knows so much about plants. Cas nods.
“All flowers have some hidden symbolism.” Cas says. Picking up the pot and setting it into the wagon.
“So what’s the meaning behind bluebells?” Dean asks, genuinely curious. Cas squints to the sky, trying to remember the meaning of this exact flower. He places his finger on his chin, like he’s seen other humans do when trying to recall information.
“I think gratitude, mostly,” Cas starts, “humility, and… undying love.” He offers Dean a small smile. Dean feels his stomach drop.
“Ahh. Cool.” He replies. Cas returns his attention to the plants on the shelves.
“Yes. Very cool.” He agrees.

As Dean’s nightmares worsen, he and Cas start taking late night trips, walking, driving, talking. Trying to adjust to the new life. Summary
After Dean puts the pan in the oven, he offers Cas the spatula covered in chocolate cake mix. Cas takes it, confused.
“What am I supposed to do with it?” He asks.
“Uh… lick it?” Dean says, as if it’s obvious. “It’s a human thing.” He explains. Cas shrugs, following Dean’s advice. He enjoys the batter.
“Chocolate is my new favorite flavor.” Cas announces. Dean rolls his eyes, grabbing a spoon to scoop some out of the bowl for himself.
“Your favorite changes every time you try something new.” Cas feels a wide grin spread across his face.
“I know. Isn’t it wonderful?” He says. Dean smirks.
“Sure. Loser.”

Summary
Jody reaches into her bag, pulling out a few bottles of sunscreen, handing one to Cas. “You should probably put some on Jack. From one to four is the hottest part of the day.” Cas nods. “And boys, you two get over here and get some spf on you.”
“Pfft, I’m fine. I tan, I don’t burn.” Dean insists.
“Yeah, really Jody, we’re fine.” Sam suggests.
“I wasn’t asking.” Jody says, pouring an unholy amount into Dean’s hand, much to his chagrin. Sam groans. “No whining, without this you’ll burn. Thank me later.” Jody says handing Sam a bottle. Sam takes it reluctantly. Dean managed to smear an all too thick layer all over his face and arms. He hates the feeling of sunscreen. So damn greasy.

Summary
Dean hates angry tears. Ever since he was little, his father would grind into him “men don’t cry”. It wasn’t until Dean was sixteen that he learned how to stave them off for good. But even now, after years of successfully choking them down, they rise. Angry tears are different, they’re harder to choke down. Dean blinks them away, picking up a large stone that weighs down in Dean’s palm. He finds his lip twitching as he stares hard at it. Finally, he launches it over the edge of the cliff to the rushing river below.
—————————————
Dean finds he can no longer escape his thoughts. It all erupts, his guilt, his trauma, his feelings about Cas and family and happiness. In his therapy session, Dean becomes frustrated and quits. Cas finds out, and the two argue, leading to Dean taking the keys to Baby and running away to a spot in the mountains. When Dean is overcome with guilt, he says a quiet not-quite-prayer to Cas, and Cas joins him near a scenic cliff, and the two share a moment. This takes place in June.

Summary
Cas smiles. “Orange sherbet is my new favorite flavor.”
“Yeah like how chocolate was your favorite last month.” Dean chuckles. Cas shrugs.
“Want to try?” He tips his cone to Dean. Dean laughs, thinking he’s joking at first. Then he realizes Cas is 100% serious. What the heck? Yolo, right? Dean offers his cone in trade. Cas takes it. “What flavor is yours?” He asks.
“Chocolate raspberry truffle.” Dean answers, trying Cas’s cone.
“That’s a long title.” Cas says.
“Just shut up and try it. I promise it’s good.” Dean’s taken back to a moment not so long before, when he was having Cas try pop rocks and cotton candy. Cas licks the cone, then pauses thoughtfully.
“Hmm. I like raspberry.”
“Is it your new favorite?” Dean teases, trading back the cones.
“No. I still like orange sherbet.” Cas says. Dean chuckles.
“Right.” He turns to Jack. “What about you, Kiddo? Do you like strawberry?” Jack nods.
“We have strawberry in our garden!” He says. Cas nods.
“That’s right, Jack. We are growing strawberries in the garden.”
“When will they finish growing?” Jack asks.
“Probably sometime this fall, and with any luck, they’ll come back in the spring.”

As Dean sings, Jack waddles into the kitchen to join him. “I told the witch doctor I was in love with you!” Dean sings, dancing around the kitchen with Jack. “I told the witch doctor you didn’t love me nice!” He strikes a pose before continuing, and Cas’s laughs echo from the dining table. Dean locks eyes with him for the next verse. “And then the witch doctor, he gave me this advice, he said: ooh ee ooh ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang!” He points the spoon at Jack, and he “sings” into it.
“Ooh ooh ah ah! Bingawalalalalabang!” Jack finishes. Dean high fives him.
“You got it, Buddy!”
“Yay!” Jack hops around, clapping his hands. He continues singing and dancing to the song as Dean adds the orange peel to the boiling juice on the stove.
