Summary
The FW45 was not quite at the level of a tractor … well, not all the time, at least … and was definitely not at geriatric-tractor level either, thankfully. Elise Stewart had driven cars that would fit in both categories, and they made a season drag on eternally. Its straight-line speed was quite good, but not all tracks were equally suited to a car with that strength.
The FW45, one might say, was a Goldilocks car, capable of good performances when the stars aligned. Her and Alex’s combined list of points finishes in Canada, at Silverstone, and in Belgium and the Netherlands testified to that.
Williams had not been hopeful for points going into Singapore, but there was always a chance, even a slim one. Especially after the Red Bulls started to falter. There was always a chance. But then on Lap 59 of the race, Sergio Perez decided to resurrect his Force India days and start playing bumper cars. And for Elise, the day just got worse from there.
