“Would you still like me if I was a worm?”
The query snapped Ruan Mei out of her daze, her gaze torn from her fingers that whisper across the strings of her ruan, strumming the murmurs of melodies that linger from the fickle childhood memories she’s willing to recall to the other woman. “Pardon?”
“Would you,” said Stelle, a grin sprouting between her repeated enunciation, “still like me if I was a worm?”
And then, so brazenly earnest it knocked the breath out of Stelle’s lungs that heaved with the weight of laughter bottled in from her prior words, Ruan Mei offered, “Would you like me to turn you into one to test that?”
Or, Stelle ends up finding company in Ruan Mei again aboard Herta Space Station and learns a little about worms along the way (and feelings).

Summary
Ruan Mei’s hand met hers. “Come with me to No Man’s Land, will you? I’m scheduled to take another trip soon.”
Amber eyes widened almost cartoonishly, reminiscent of a scrappy raccoon striking gold after rummaging through a trash can. “Really? You’d want that?”
More than you could ever know, she could’ve uttered, but instead, “It’s not dissimilar from the Belobog you’re endeared to. Though, there’s certainly less people, and the weather conditions are quite unforgiving.” She paused, gauging Stelle’s expression, which seemed elated. “My family has a cabin there we could use. You can stay with me for as long as you want. I think it’d be a worthwhile excursion.”
Or, this time, Ruan Mei brings Stelle with her on her journey towards Aeonhood, and realizes that some things are sweeter the simpler they are.
