Description:

What happens to the wormhole sector after the fall of Cardassia? An ancient empire, for the first time in centuries, faces true defeat. Meanwhile, the neighboring system, Bajor, is ascendant, an economic hub and a close ally to the new quadrant hegemon. Can Cardassia lift itself into a true democracy? Can Bajor resist the urge to twist the knife?

The Federation's statisticians have computed that this all ends well in the long run; but in the long run, we're all dead. In the meanwhile the two peoples are on their own.

Notes:

I've always been fascinated by two things that never get covered in stories; how the pieces are picked up after the action concludes, and the transients, the times when it's clear where things are headed but it's not clear how long it will take or how much will be lost along the way. This series explores the transients of the day after on Cardassia and Bajor, as an increasingly distracted and isolationist Federation leaves the sector to its own devices

The best word I know of to describe the format I'm going for here is "epistolary", though very few of the documents are letters. It's more a story told through news clippings, as if you are travelling through 31st century museum teaching about post-Cardassian wormhole sector history.
