Summary
Rising young UNCLE agent and unbonded Guide Napoleon Solo affects a laissez-faire attitude about it, but he is beginning to wonder if he will find ever his Sentinel. Unbonded Sentinel and ex-KGB golden boy Illya Kuryakin has always been encouraged to think of a Guide as unnecessary for a Sentinel who possesses the control, as he does, to keep the zone-outs at bay. Sparks fly when the two are brought together for a diplomatically sensitive mission on the mountainous border between West Germany and Czechoslovakia, where Eastern and Western powers, smugglers, and very land itself present lethal hazards.

Summary
When UNCLE's April Dancer and Mark Slate apprehend a Thrush scientist in central Ohio who seems completely incoherent and dies suddenly while being questioned, UNCLE's best are called for. Joining bonded Sentinel/Guide pair Mark and April on the site, the four agents soon find that their case is connected to a much older and more terrible mystery. What is the horror that lies deep in the earth of Chillicothe, and how is it able to tear the two Sentinels away from their Guides?
The Anthropology graduate student who joins them, and a couple of local cavers know much that can help, but none of them can imagine the response that comes from all around, in answer to the Guides' plight.

Summary
Napoleon and Illya are called in when airport officials in San Francisco are threatened with a laser attack on northbound passenger planes and UNCLE thinks it looks like a Thrush operation. Chasing down the villain's probable base on Mt Tam, our heroes discover that this affair involves Sentinel business too, for Mt Tam hides its own secrets —a forgotten shrine, sacred to Sentinels, which is also imperiled.
