Summary
A mirror faced her, and she faced herself.
She didn't know how she knew the girl in the mirror was her - she had not seen her own face in many a year, after all, could not imagine how the few blurry features she remembered would translate into this new face - but it was most certainly her.
She couldn't describe it in words, nor could she look directly into the eyes of the her-not-her, but there was the vague impression of a halo of hair, of a sharp chin and sharper eyes, lips pressed thin, an awkwardness in which she held herself, a body not used to holding its own weight.
The girl in the mirror stood, and she found herself following, bony ankles creaking in protest at bearing her weight, the figure in front all knobbly knees and visible ribs, a skeleton with skin stretched thin over hollow cheeks, a marble sculpture with too much chiseled off. A mockery of a person.
