Summary
“A boyfriend!” Luke seethes, pacing back and forth. Marius watches him do his rounds at the foot of the bed like he’s a prowling guard dog. “Nina’s too young to have a boyfriend! How are we sure he isn’t some… some jumped-up dickwad?”
“Have some faith in our daughter’s taste, would you?” Marius tells him calmly, looking over his reading glasses from where he’s already reclined on the bed with a book. “With how adorably lovestruck she sounded when she talked about Oliver, it doesn’t seem like he’s a jumped-up dickwad.”
“Oliver.” Luke hisses with vitriol, as if he’s saying the name of a murderer and not the name of a gangly teenage boy. The sheer venom in his voice makes Marius bark out a laugh.

Nina—Luke and Marius’ wonderful beautiful amazing sixteen year old daughter—announces that she has a boyfriend. Marius is happy for her! Luke, on the other hand, goes into an overprotective spiral. Typical.

“Take a seat, Wren.” Mr. Pearce says with the kind of effortless command and intimidation one would expect from a—a military guy, or something. Is that what he is? Ex-military? Oh, Wren is so fucked. “Now, please.”
“Sir yessir.” Wren squeaks out. Their hand twitches, almost flying up in a salute.
“No need for that.” Mr. Pearce says. “If you’re going to be the babysitter of my children, you can be casual around me, it’s fine.”

Wren Garcia just wanted to make some extra cash as a babysitter and ends up booked for Marius von Hagen’s children. Then they end up getting straight up interrogated by Marius von Hagen’s abso-fucking-lutely terrifying husband.
(Or: Local teenager gets vetted by a retired special agent. Local teenager is very afraid about the whole matter.)
