Your face heated with embarrassment. “Mom!”
She raised her hands defensively, a sly grin on her face. “I just know when you like someone, [name]. Do it. Your father’s still asleep, and I can call your work to give you a day off-perfect time to make a move.”
Internally, you cringed. Was it that obvious already? Just one night, and she pegged you that easily? Pinching your nose, you brought the phone back to your ear.
“Hey, you there? Where’d you go?”
“I’m here, it’s fine. Hey, it’s really nice today. Do you think we could hang out?”
Silence. You could hear him shifting, muffled, almost like he was trying to hide how excited he was. Then, softly, he responded.
“What’s your address? I’ll come pick you up.”
“What? No, I have a car-“
“I can’t leave without my bodyguard,” he interrupted. “I have to come.”
