Summary
“It’s okay,” Naim said. There was still blood seeping from his mouth.
“No.” Ryan shook his head. He didn’t know where to touch Naim, didn’t know if he trusted himself to. Carefully he reached for his wrist, the closest thing, and pulled his hand from where it clenched white around the railing. “No, fuck. Come here—”
Ryan could see the ragged skin of the gash beneath Naim’s chin, the blood still dripping freely onto his collarbones. A deep wine-purple was blooming at his brow. And Ryan had done this, the real Ryan.

Summary
Large, purple bruises had already settled themselves onto his chest, back, and arms — some from his own thrashing, others from people trying to hold him down. His eyes were bloodshot, and his nostrils red-rimmed. There was a cut on his dry, cracked lips that made one side swell up. His skin was pallid, which only amplified the mottled damage to his body.
Ryan Whelan was disgusting, and here was the physical proof.
Maybe he really was sick. A sinner. A sexual deviant who deserved whatever was coming for him.

Ryan's thoughts and feelings immediately after the ritual

Summary
Softness and intimacy had colored all of Ryan's being since the day they met. Every greeting was a plea for Naim to step closer. Every hang out had been Ryan's best attempt at a date. Really, they had never truly been friends. That was a myth Ryan had told himself to ignore what was pulling them together; they’re two souls, bound together by the same sin.
Or: I built up Ryan's character a little bit (religious trauma included) and explored his relationship with his own guilt and his love for Naim.
