“We go home, we… we erase each other, and this didn’t happen. It was just a one time thing. Right Roz?” Shane’s voice was steady, but his mouth pressed thin, a crease drawn tight between his brows.
Ilya’s eyes were coated with a thick glaze with something that didn’t quite reach the surface. “Yes,” he said after a moment. “One time thing.”
The softness in his voice might have meant something, but Shane didn’t let it.
“Um- okay, right. Yes. Well, I will… see you around, Rozanov.”Ilya lifted his head, composed as ever.
“Goodbye Shane.”

“Did I do something wrong?”
“No. No, Hollander,” Ilya coughed, eyes flitting around the room. “Is just– Is too much.”
“This is… too much?” Shane repeated slowly, incredulously. “We see each other maybe once a month. Less, even.”
“No. Is not that– You are just,” Ilya swore under his breath in Russian. His accent was getting thicker, the words clunkier, in the way it always got stronger when he was frustrated or tired. Shane hated himself for recognizing it. “...too much.”
OR
In the Heated Rivalry book, Ilya intends to break things off with Shane the night of the All-Star Game, but then Shane gets hurt. What if Shane never gets injured by Marlow, and Ilya really does break things off?
(Basically, a shit ton of angst and Shane Hollander learning to love himself. There will be a happy ending!)

Summary
Shane and Ilya had mutually agreed to keep their whatever-they’re-doing out of Sochi. It was an easy decision to make: this was bigger than any MLH rivalry and definitely bigger than a few hotel hook-ups. There was no room for distractions, not with Olympic gold on the line.
So it’d be really fucking great if their daemons could get on the same page and stop trying to cause an international fucking incident.

Svetlana: Plane crash rewrite - somehow this leads to Svetlana following Shane up a mountain in hopeless rescue attempt
