He didn’t know how long their peace would hold, if it did at all. All he did know was that the Germans had started the singing, put up their trees, and shouted across the trenches. He knew that they weren’t to be trusted, but that they loved Christmas more than Soap could comprehend.
So, he shrugged, picking out a cigarette from his uniform’s inner pocket. “You’re an incarnate of Krampus.”
“Krampus?”
“Santa Claus’ devil brother. Stabs misbehaving children.”
“Yes,” Ghost said, “sounds just like something I’d do.”

Summary
Ghost falls in love with Soap hard and fast in his first life.
He stumbles into it like a child learning how to walk - clumsy and unsure of how to navigate himself in his new surroundings. And just like a child, he foolishly didn’t see what lay ahead of him. Doesn't see the unholy and burning stretch of the vast desert, until it was too late to turn around. Alone and exhausted from the journey, he had no other choice but to continue.
For Ghost, it always begins with the hot flames of Al Mazrah and ends with the cold winds of Chicago.
For Simon, it always starts with Soap and ends with Johnny.
Or, the fic where Soap keeps dying in Al Mazrah and Ghost reincarnates each time to save him.
