Summary
It was probably a mistake to surrender. To let his latest and thus far most benevolent pursuers acquire him.
Maybe if the press of time had been slower and his addled brain had been quicker, he would've chosen differently.
But it's said that time waits for no man. And if true, that would still be more courtesy than he can expect, because the Winter Soldier's only ever been a machine. At least according to nearly every one who's had a say in his life over the past seventy years…and more than a few from before then, too. If the files and everything lying unwritten between the lines are any indication.
But even machines get time to reboot. Sometimes.

A vignette where James Barnes is probably dead, the Winter Soldier is definitely recalibrating, and Steve Rogers is absolutely and unendingly a nuisance.

Summary
Steve Rogers was not going to be home for the holidays. Not for any given value of home he'd now come to know.
He wasn't sure if that bothered him more than it should have, or not nearly enough.
Set in the aftermath of Project Insight's fall and the revelation of the Winter Soldier's true identity, a rotating-POV story where Steve Rogers, a few friends, and maybe an enemy or two reflect on things like love, loss, hope, and the meanings of home.

Roy was already a clingy b**tard on a good day and it only got worse when he was sick. For a guy who could take a concerning amount of damage with a Godd**ned smile (and that was coming from him), he had a weird habit of going toddler mode as soon as he got the sniffles.
And this? This was even worse than usual.
Which only made it all the more perplexing why the dumb*ss had chosen to isolate like this in the first place.
Oh, well. He was clearly regretting it now, at least.

Roy Harper knows what it means to be left out in the cold. It's brutal as an adult.
It's a Goddarned nightmare as a kid.
And after a chance encounter with Tim Drake gives the two a chance to grow closer, Roy and his very bad case of Dad Brain come to the realization that this kid has been without backup way too often, and for way, way too long.
Which means it's time to fix some schitt, even if he has to now run the least stealthy infiltration op ever to do it. Watch out, Wayne Manor; Roy's going to befriend those who are actually in charge, ignore those who aren't, and make everyone else get in friggin' line.
Because every kid needs a safe place to call home.

Summary
This is part indulgent fluff, part indulgent angst, part character study, and 1,000% indulging my obsession with one of my favorite sets of characters and relationships amongst the Batverse—the platonic/queerplatonic bond between Jason Todd, Princess Koriand'r, & Roy Harper. There is such incredible complexity and contrast and richness to explore with them, both individually and collectively.
This series is also me defying and creating my own refuge from some of the absolute fvckery of the stereotyping, Hollywood bull, toxic masculinity & femininity, porn culture, and other influences that have created such toxic and destructive miasmas and warped views that have poisoned real life to the extent they have.
I was gonna say fuck that shit, but since the literal fucking and literal shit, especially in concert, are rather much of the problem, I say we Unfuck That Shit instead. 😎🤷♀️

Even if he's glad his dad is alive.
But through a series of confrontations and revelations, Jason finds the truths that will set him free and makes the choice to reclaim his legacy, because there are still people who need him, even if the center of his world no longer wants him.

All he knew was Happy was waiting outside to pick him up from school, and somehow the principal has decided maybe that's the problem.
