Summary
The days had settled into some manner of routine surprisingly fast, Veers thinks as he’s stretched out on a beach towel on the warm sand of one of the many beaches of Seswenna. The arrival of his favourite sailor had gone as he had expected: Piett’s eyes had held that wicked little gleam that usually ended up in a rather sweaty and sticky night as soon as he’d seen Veers and Thrawn take a swim.
Another lazy warm day with beach, sea and sun...and Thrawn, who is a perfectly fine fellow, Veers feels.

“Come on now. Right here.”
Veers moves with a sudden jerk of limbs, almost as if he doesn’t know he’s doing it. He crosses to where Piett is sitting with a few strides, then pauses just in front of the pillow. He swallows, shifting in place in an uncharacteristic sign of nervousness or indecisiveness, or maybe both.
Piett breaks the silence with a single word.
“Down.”
Piett has always noticed a certain hound-like quality to Max, but he finds it runs much deeper than he thought.

“The water’s nice, you know,” Veers says, as he emerges from a dive near where Thrawn is sitting.
There’s a twitch on Thrawn’s face, smoothed away almost too quickly to see. “I do not like swimming.”
With a whole villa, nice drinks stocked and a big pool for diving, what else could Veers want for vacation? Well, for Thrawn to dare to swim as well, for one.

The news of their quick expansion had reached far. Piett had never expected to see Thrawn to look anything but glacially calm, yet the urgent communication with old Imperial codes that had come in for him personally had made him look shaken to the core.
At long last, his own people had made contact.
The Chiss finally reach out, and Thrawn takes the outstretched hand. It's not an olive branch.
