Summary
Underneath the coldness of the "Demon Prodigy" lies a rare, flickering anxiety. Dazai is acutely aware that the world is "designed to break things," and he is terrified that Varukh—so fragile and "idiotic"—will be broken by someone other than himself. This fear manifests as extreme isolation; he keeps Varukh locked up and hid from the world to ensure that if Varukh is ever destroyed, Dazai is the only one holding the pieces.
