"He was right when he said Carmen was strong. He worked for what he wanted like a fucking dog. He wanted to stop stuttering, so he stopped fucking talking and quietly practiced in his room until he got past it (for the most part) without the help of a speech therapist. He wanted to open a restaurant with Michael, so he sketched blueprints, made menus, and tried (and failed) to calculate the expenses (and he would have opened it too, if Michael had done it with him). He wanted to be a professional chef, so he became Food and Wine's Best New Chef before he turned twenty-one. And now he wanted to die... and the only thing that could stop him was God Himself."
