A young troll wakes up in a strange house with doors locked from the inside, left with only her name and an idea of what she is: Mari, the limeblood, the last of her caste and the newest prisoner of Liminal Space, a twisting labyrinth inhabited by twisted monsters. Hunted by a dark and sadistic entity that commands Liminal Space, Mari is forced to confront not only the part of her past that connects her to Liminal Space, but her past as a troll, which includes a mysterious connection to another troll named Sollux Captor and one of Alternia's most dire sins.
But as more is uncovered and the stakes rise beyond anything even Paradox Space could conceive, Mari's fate soon becomes uncertain and she is thrust into a game that may demand more out of her than she can give. Will Liminal Space break her like it has so many, leaving her a plaything to a cruel false god? Or can a nihilistic manic pixie dream girl knockoff and a pessimistic gamer save each other from their own destined ends, and in doing so, save everything and everyone worth saving?
