Summary
After spending the last couple years traveling and carrying out missions for the Hidden Leaf following the war, Sasuke is sent an invitation to Naruto and Hinata's wedding. Filled with the despair of having lost the love of his life, for good, Sasuke only sees one way out of this situation.
Then, with his impeccable timing, Kakashi calls him back to the Hidden Leaf --- insisting that he stays in the village for a full month. No missions, nothing to do, and everybody around him insisting he needs to reconnect with the world.
Sasuke keeps to himself, and plans to avoid Naruto as much as he can while he's back. But with all the pressure around him, and time running out before the wedding, Sasuke doubts he can avoid that boy forever.

The thought lingered, tempting.
But when Sasuke tried to imagine taking that final step, he found he couldn’t. Not because he was afraid, or because he thought he deserved to live. But because he made a promise, and for the first time in a very long time, Sasuke intended to keep it.
He promised Naruto he’d come back, so he turned around and walked back towards the shore.
Or, it doesn't matter how hard Naruto tries, or how much Sasuke wants him to be, Naruto is not the cure. Sasuke needs to learn how to heal by himself.
