    Fragmented, disconnected, untethered.

    He’s cold.

    It’s the first sliver of awareness that comes back to him, the first thing his body (his body?) is acutely, pointedly, intimately aware of.

    He’s cold. He’s freezing, feels it in his bones and in his soul like he was remade around it, created just to house this yawning, icy chasm that’s cracked open inside of him.

    He thinks, distantly, he might’ve been. He remembers fear and grief and blinding, agonizing pain, and then nothing at all— a void of absolute nothingness swallowing him whole.

    Danny: Alternate self. It’s a cosmic effect, sometimes two alts can have near identical backgrounds, other times the only thing that links them is a single, life altering event that defines every version of that person throughout every dimension. Speaking of, I don’t suppose you know anyone who died around age 14 and got brought back significantly changed, maybe with some white hair?

    On the run from his parents, Danny has to find a way to block his ectosignature so he can stay hidden. The device he creates sure comes in handy when he's applying to an internship at Wayne Enterprises!

    Basically, Kryptonite has an ectosignature and Danny figures out how to block it.

    This is based off of the idea that Ectoplasm is the essence of death and a bit is released when a person died. When Krypton was destroyed, there was enough ectoplasm released that it soaked into the debris of the planet. Kryptonians are so affected because those rocks physically and supernaturally remind them of the death of their people and the possibility of their own deaths.
