September 1982
The war is over. Voldemort was defeated on October 31, 1981. Regulus Black discovered Voldemort’s horcruxes and informed the Order of the Phoenix, which destroyed them. When Voldemort arrived on Halloween to kill baby Harry, the Order was standing by, ready to kill him first.
Almost a year later, the Marauders and their friends are rebuilding their lives.

Sirius hummed and returned to the crossword. “Hey, Moony, what’s an eight-letter word for –”
“No,” Remus said firmly, almost out of the doorway.
“But Moony,” Sirius said, putting just a bit of whine into it.
“No,” Remus said. “Not since The Great Quibbler Debacle of 1985. No help with the crosswords. None.”
“That was four years ago!”
“And yet you still insist that it was my mistake and not that you’d inserted the wrong word going across –”
“I did not!”
Remus took a deep breath. “And this is exactly why I don’t help with the crossword. I’m off to change the linens. Call Prongs if you’re so desperate.”
“Prongs is desperate. And I’d have to work the tele – tele –”
“Good god, Padfoot, the telephone, which you do perfectly well to order take away.”
“I’m wounded again.”
“You’ll live,” Remus said practically, setting off down the hall.
