Summary
"Elisabeth is a good friend of mine. You'll be safe with her. And I'll bring you something nice for putting up with her, when I get back." She stands up and looks down upon him fondly, hands on her hips. "That's only if I hear good things about you."
Thomas looks down at his lap and twiddles his fingers. "OK."
Klein steps onto the threshold of the door. "You two behave, now, alright?" She beckons for Elisabeth to come closer. She does.
"Watch him," she commands.
(The girls are supposed to have the day off, but Klein is called in to assist in an interrogation and must leave her nephew in Elisabeth's care. Not long after, the city is placed under martial law following an assassination attempt against a prominent German politician. This complicates things.)

Summary
Elisabeth stares into her lap. "Well, I try my best, but there are some aspects of the schooling I struggle with."
"Namely?"
Elisabeth looks at him with an indignance that quickly softens into unease. "I'm not so sure I know how to talk to people in a way that persuades them to provide me with information."
(Elisabeth travels west for her first solo assignment, but it turns out to be a disappointment. In Berlin, Klein is called to testify before the People's Court.)

Summary
"It's fairly simple, really. We can pretend to forget all these other dalliances. Perhaps your own true affections lie elsewhere, after all. Hofmeyer, meanwhile, pressured you into accepting and returning his advances – we all know of homophiles and their perversions – and you, for fear of suffering career setbacks, complied. Extreme duress, you understand."
(In the year 1950, distinguished Allgemeine-SS cadet Margarethe Klein begins her illustrious professional career and fights the good fight by intimidating and extorting her coworkers and fellow servicemen. Set in the timeline of The New Order: Last Days of Europe.)

"Miss, far be it from me to complain, but wouldn't it have been simpler to just get someone who speaks Bosnian or whatever?"
"Croatian. Yes, in some respects it would have. Turn here.”
(Elisabeth and Klein are sent to Croatia on a special delivery. It's a routine job, but Elisabeth's thoughts are on something else instead... her commanding officer and traveling partner. Set in the timeline of The New Order: Last Days of Europe, and a sequel to "Race for the Prize.")

See the Third Reich by Train on Three Reichsmark a Day by Beeswax
Fandom Hearts of Iron (Video Games)
19 Nov 2025
Summary
[Set in the althistory timeline The New Order: Last Days of Europe, which is available on Steam as a free mod for Hearts of Iron IV. I'm not here to advertise it to you, but I personally think it is wonderful. Why else would I be writing for it?]
This is a series concerning the brief professional love affair of two intelligence officers of the German Reich's national security apparatus in Hitler's final years. They will encounter, be complicit in, actively allow and enjoy depraved things together, and at the same time they will grow together, bonded forever by the secret that each of them bears. And, as the gentle parody of a title suggests, I hope you'll join us, be it by train, bus or ferry.

Mondo Oowada gives a practical lesson on the differences between 'I killed', 'I ended up killing', and 'I tried to kill but failed miserably'.
It is, unsurprisingly, a rather unpleasant experience for everyone involved.
