Gideon's arms fall down to his sides with a rattling clank of chains, and he strides toward the blanket—
"Ah, ah—boots off first," Kremy says.
And Gideon glares, but he's already committed himself to this meal. He can suffer this indignity, too.
"There's a fine fella," Kremy says, as Gideon unfastens his work boots and steps onto the blanket in crumbling socks. "I think we're gonna get along like ice cream an' pie."

On the streets of Agwé, Kremy finds a strange drifter trying to pick his pockets and makes him into his newest project. But anything Kremy wants can always be taken away.

“Hello,” Legato greeted.
A pack of matches waited on him; Legato struck one with a sharp scrape. He danced the flame over the wicks of five candles. More light bloomed across the altar, and Legato stared at the wall of photographs pasted from floor to ceiling. There was…everything.
Knives walking down the street, stepping from his car, sitting at his desk, cleaning a gun on his back porch, collecting mail from his mailbox. He did even the mundane with such grace and elegance that Legato found it impossible not to obsess over him. His long, beautiful fingers wrapped around a knife as he cut vegetables at his cutting board. The shape of his frame backlit against the upstairs window. The cold cut of his arctic eyes sweeping across a table toward some unseen dinner guest.
Legato leaned his cheek against the wall, the only bare place, and he watched from this close angle as the candlelight flickered across his hundreds of photos. Even more filled albums lining the bookcases against the walls.
“Maybe someday,” he said, stroking his thumb along the curve of Knives’ jawline, “maybe you will look at me again.”
