Baz decided I was worthless long ago, before he even really knew me. He must think the words Simon Snow and worthless are synonymous.
I think of Baz, who I’ve shared my childhood with. Who I’ve fought and followed. Who I’ve spent my life gearing up to fight. He and I are supposed to make it to the end. He’s supposed to look into my eyes as he takes it all away from me.
He and I are supposed to just... be.

Fighting one war is bad enough; three is almost impossible. That’s why, when the Old Families offer the Mage a deal that will put an end to their conflict, he accepts.
Simon hates everything about the deal. (And his life. And he definitely hates Baz.) He’s only going along with his part in it because he’s the Mage’s Heir and he has to. There definitely aren’t any other reasons.
Or at least, if there are, Simon doesn’t know them. Yet.

An incubus' job is simple. Contract with a human, satisfy their every desire, and then drag their soul back to Hell. It should be easy to do, and usually, it is. And it is usually a lot of fun. Simeon enjoys his purpose. And he loves that he gets to contract with a magical soul.
But Baz isn't like his other contractors. He asks a lot of questions. And he doesn't seem to play fair.
Then there's the tiny detail about being a vampire. A dark creature who cannot die because he's already dead.
And suddenly Simeon is stuck in the mortal world with a soul he can't harvest and a contract he can't complete.
It can't be that bad.

Simon is worried about what Baz might get up to all summer long without Simon there to keep an eye on him.
Penny says, “You wage psychological warfare on yourself so much, Baz doesn’t have to plot anything. You do all the work for him.”
Which is ridiculous.
All Simon wants is to plague Baz with thoughts of him, give Baz a taste of his own medicine.
All Simon wants is to be on Baz's mind so much, he can’t focus. Can’t work on coming up with a spell to end Simon. Can’t plot a political coup.
All Simon wants is for Baz to not get any fucking reprieve from Simon all summer.
Is that too much to ask?
But psychological warfare is a tricky thing...
Merlin knows Simon's summers in the care home are awful as is. This year is made worse than usual thanks to the after-effects of a spell gone awry.
The days are so hard, but the nights...?
