“You think you can just show up and act like nothing happened?”
Shin’s voice trembles, his calm facade cracking as he stares at Saint.
“I never said that.”
“You didn’t have to. You standing there, looking at me like that—it’s the same thing. Like you’re trying to pretend it wasn’t your fault.” Shin snaps back.
Saint’s throat tightens.
“It was my fault. I know that, Shin—”
“You don’t!” he cuts him off, his voice sharp and breaking. “You don’t know what you did. You don’t know what it cost me.”
Saint takes a hesitant step closer.
“Then tell me. I can—”
“Stop it! You don’t get to ask me for anything. You've lost the right to when you ruined my life.”
“Shin, I think about it everyday and-” Saint says again, his voice trembling.
“Do you?” His voice is quiet now, broken.
Shin pauses before continuing.
“You didn’t just hurt me, Saint. You left me there. You knew what they’d do. And you left.”
Saint’s face drains of color. He doesn’t respond. He can’t.

Or : There's more to the story than anyone can imagine - damage so heavy and scars so deep that even Saint doesn't know if Shin can ever be whole again.

The worst part of being pregnant was not being able to drink. Despite Zhou Zishu’s strenuous protests that it was by now too late to matter, even his useless disciple had quickly been co-opted into the enemy camp. “I’m losing my sense of taste anyway, so what’s the problem?” Zishu complained as Wen Kexing confronted Zishu with a container of wine that Zishu had hidden for later use. It’d last been squirrelled away in his travelling clothes, which Zhang Chengling had taken away to wash and fold. Curse that unfilial disciple.
“You think it’s the taste of alcohol that’s the issue?” Kexing stared at him, incredulous. “Surely you aren’t that ignorant. Or is this sort of miseducation common for people with no medical training?”
