Summary
So what if his former associates thought of him as a lowlife? So what if he was disgraced from academia? So long as he was still welcomed back into the town-on-Gorkhon, nothing else mattered.
With quivering hands, he picked up the letter and carefully opened it as though he was afraid something would jump out at him from inside it. But nothing had changed, it was the exact same as when he had first read it a week ago.Bachelor Daniil Dankovsky,

They can see you, can hear you, can touch you, can impose their own interpretations of you onto you, (an action which you have somehow convinced yourself is a violation of your autonomy), but they don’t know your thoughts, hidden behind seven millimetres of solid skull. So long as your thoughts are your own, away from the prying interpretations of others, you’re safe.
And look how that’s turned out for you! A certified agoraphobe — but hey, at least you’re the only one here.

Summary
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] — You think you should be more concerned at the sight of an unnaturally thin black figure donning a white mask with three tiny holes marking the eyes and mouth sitting beside the lieutenant, cupping its expressionless face in its thin hands, but you’re not. It’s unnerving, sure, but stranger things have happened. Still, what is it?
DRAMA [Easy: Success] — This is a tragedian, a classical writer of tragic plays. It’s in the name, try to keep up with the script, Harry — you are playing the lead role, after all.
The tragedian tilts its head at you, and your eyes follow the stitch lines traced like veins across its dusty-black form. “You’re not supposed to be awake yet.” It says. “We’re still setting up the props. The audience will be filing in soon, you need to get into position.” There is a sense of urgency to its words, almost compelling you to prepare yourself for… what?—
Dankovsky has fled the Capital to save his lab. In response, The Powers That Be sent their two finest cops after him.

Summary
It was always those with the loudest deaths that had the quietest funerals, Sticky thought; it was those who died unrequited, unfinished, dissatisfied, that were not missed, had no mourners. Dankovsky would be fuel for the next mass grave.

“You promise you’ll fix it…?”
“Of course.”
For a heartbeat, he seems to believe you — a dismissive wave of his hand kills that hope. “Forget it, I’m better off handling things myself.”—

Summary
I know I’m a phony. I shouldn’t have lied to Phoebe, but I did. And I’m sorry. But not sorry enough to come back home. I made my choice, and now I have to live with it. That’s the way it’s always been for me.
