Chris nodded. “I understand. I’m glad you’re all safe. I’m sorry” —he glanced at the floor— “that I didn’t stop it earlier. For Derek.”
Talia studied his face for a long moment. “I’m sure you had your reasons. Derek will recover faster from being used by your sister than he would from losing his entire family.” She paused a moment. Chris suspected she was collecting herself. “Laura speaks highly of you, and of course, you and my brother are...old friends. My family owes you everything.”
Old friends. That was certainly one term for what he and Peter were a decade ago. “I just did what was right.”

Summary
Peter's always been after power. Specifically of the Alpha variety. Though he's made do with more mundane strengthens - the control of knowledge, the use of well-placed lies, and the consequences of horribly timed truths - searching for that ultimate authority has always been his goal. It's kind of his whole thing. His one defining trait.
So what happens when he gains all that desired power by mishap? What Betas does he have to tether him? To keep him from being that monster he woke up and died as. What do the only people he has around to think of as his Pack do when they find him once again an abomination? Those that have no reason to put their trust in him. The pups he's harmed and marred in ways he can't undo. He deserves no third chances. He's not worth saving, and he knows it.
Yet, to even their own disbelief, they try anyway.
